Job Description

With guidance/confirmation of the physical therapy clinical instructor, the Physical Therapist Intern will perform the following patient care activities:

♦              Expectation of 80% patent care

♦              Plans, directs, implements and evaluates patient care

♦              Evaluates and recommends appropriate equipment for patients

♦              Delegates care and directs PT Assistants and/or PT Aides in examination, evaluation (including assessment/reassessment) and all intervention

♦              Attends rounds as appropriate

♦              Display knowledge/skills needed to treat all age groups within the their designated areas of care

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:     

♦              Effective interpersonal and communication skills

♦              Ability to provide compassionate care to patients

♦              Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately

♦              Ability to lift greater than 50 pounds

♦              Ability to independently transfer patients up to 200 pounds in weight

♦              Ability to stand for an extended period of time (greater than four hours) 

  ♦             Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, assessment, and treatment approach to broad range of diagnoses/impairments requiring physical therapy intervention (per criteria established in academic training while a student/graduate intern and evidenced by achieving licensure as a licensed intern)

♦             Must be fluent in written/spoken English
