The Opportunity

The Investment Strategist will be responsible for creating differentiated content and research that is driven by quantitative analysis. In this role, content must conform to the unique, dejargonated, down to earth tone utilized by the Chief Markets & Money Strategist. At the same time, it should also be actionable and encourage increased engagement by Ally Invest customers and prospects. The person in this role should feel comfortable delivering investment insights via written, verbal, social media and other means of communications.

 

Deep analysis of market data, sector/industry data, individual stocks/ETFs and macro data will be used for generating investment ideas for the Ally Invests client base. Backing up research with financial analysis will be critical. Regular weekly, ad hoc and real-time analysis are the foundation of the investment content strategy. Additionally, this role will participate in investment committee decisions regarding the management and evolution of the wealth product and will help shape content for financial advisors and their customers.  

 

The Investment Strategist will work in close collaboration with product strategy, marketing, PR, creative services, communication services and the various business operators in Invest. They will act as a liaison between these groups and be responsible for managing various projects the team is working on. Ally’s digital conference initiative is an important cross-functional project that this role will be accountable for driving. This person will have a heavy hand in everything from ideation, to sourcing speakers, to scheduling and organizing meetings with internal and external stakeholders, to participating in conference panels and social media engagement.

The Work Itself

·       Create written content to be used in various formats (blogs, emails, social media, etc.)

·       Write regular reports and thematic reports on market events impacting different asset classes

·       Support the creation of a compelling investment outlook, content and education offering

·       Perform financial analysis on the market, sectors, ETFs, stocks and the economy

·       Develop databases (excel, etc.) integral to creating differentiated research

·       Explore ways to deliver content in creative, snackable ways by leveraging emerging technologies and digital interactions

·       Create and manage a calendar for content output

·       Lead strategy meetings with cross-functional partners

·       Participate in Investment Policy Committee meetings

·       Source digital conference speakers

·       Manage the digital conference process

·       Create and deliver presentations to all levels of the organization

·       Manage relationships with cross-functional teams

·       Maintain database for tracking the team’s KPIs

·       Update blog articles when needed

·       Maintain and liaise with compliance

 

The Skills You Bring

·       A strong desire to educate individual investors

·       Enjoy writing as much as building excel models

·       Ability to communicate in a simple but engaging way

·       A solid understanding of the Ally brand image

·       A strong background and/or interest in investment research & management and investment communications

·       Demonstrate strong knowledge of a wide variety of asset classes (stocks, ETFs, bonds, commodities, derivatives, among others)

·       Solid foundation in economics and macro drivers of asset markets

·       Highly detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and ability to multi-task

·       Self-motivated

·       Able to exercise independent thought and judgment and adapt to new tasks with little notice

·       Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal

·       Strong spreadsheet skills. Must be an expert in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint

·       Advanced skills in VBA, Tableau, Power BI and Python is a plus

·       FINRA Series 7+ 66 licenses, or a CFA preferred

·       5-8 years of experience in Financial Services Industry or investment research, banking or financial operations
