Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Provide accounting and analytical support to manager of Property Accounting as well as performing property accounting functions within the department.

Responsible for day-to-day analysis and closing of capital construction projects to plant, retirement of assets, as well as any transfer of assets.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis
Compile and analyze monthly Capital Expenditure, Overhead and AFUDC reports
Support the preparation of the monthly consolidated PP&E and Accumulated Depreciation roll-forward reports
Prepare explanations for quarterly and year over year Balance Sheet fluctuations
Assist with annual/monthly depreciation budgets and forecasts
Prepare various property related schedules for other departments, including Tax, Budgeting, auditors and operations.
Review open projects and communicate with Engineering and Divisional groups regarding appropriate status.
Prepare monthly reports for deferred and reimbursable projects.
Responsible for GAAP and FERC property accounting for regulated entities, including quarterly and annual FERC Form 6 support for property.
Develop and maintain a positive working relationship between and with customers, managers and departments supported
Review and approve projects (AFEs) in internally-developed CARS Project System
Be a power user of KM’s financial software (Lawson) in the areas of activities, assets, and journal entries
Test and support all Lawson and related system upgrades
Learn and apply various processes and systems within Property Accounting Department included but not limited to CARS, PSA, Lawson and the Lawson Query Tool

Position Requirements

Accounting degree or similar field of study
A minimum of 5 years work experience in a fast-paced accounting environment
Strong accounting knowledge of capital additions and retirements is desirable
Must have a good working knowledge and experience with automated financial systems
Strong reporting background with intermediate to advanced level Excel experience
Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve complex accounting issues
Ability to undertake large amounts of work in a prioritized and organized fashion, and to timely and successfully complete multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines
Must be able to analyze events at the transaction level, and apply sound and consistent policies to those events
Must be able to perform the required and expected duties with minimal supervision
Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor, focus on attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to established work schedules
Must be self-motivated and detail oriented
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others and deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism
Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, utilizing strong verbal and listening skills
Write effectively and understand written communication, including but not limited to E-mail
Ensure compliance with internal company policies and controls
Must be able to understand and appropriately apply accounting policies and procedures
Ability to research and apply GAAP and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission regulatory guidance with respect to Property Accounting matters
Maintain a regular, dependable attendance, and high level of performance
Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public
May at times be required to work non-traditional hours
