Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The HES Professional will play a key role in providing Industrial Hygiene technical leadership and direction to the industrial hygiene program for the Anacortes Refinery. This position will be responsible for facilitating compliance with all federal and state safety and health regulations. In addition, this role coordinates the industrial hygiene responses to occupational health related incidents with the emergency response and incident management teams. Finally, the position is responsible for site-wide ES&S and other training responsibilities including the supervision of two training personnel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Anticipates, recognizes, evaluates and controls chemical, biological and physical health hazards within the facility.
Oversees the Industrial Hygiene (IH) programs and provides mentoring and technical support to internal clients.
Oversees the site hazard communication program, asbestos management, radiation safety management, respiratory protection programs, ergonomics and other IH programs.
Leads multidisciplinary teams to develop/revise IH-related policies and procedures.
Works with site management to set a clear vision for protecting worker health.
Researches/evaluates personal protective equipment (PPE) and IH-related instrumentation equipment and coordinates implementation of changes in PPE, equipment or safety/health procedures.
Oversees preparation, coordination and execution of employee exposure monitoring during routine, turnaround (TAR) and unusual work activities.
Maintains Industrial Hygiene Equipment
Ensures IH support during the planning and execution of TAR and capital projects.
Provide IH support to the medical department for medical surveillance programs.
Oversees submission of SARA 311/312 reports such as chemical inventory reports.
Interacts with external regulatory agencies and auditors
Must be willing to join the ERT
Oversees HESS training and support for other training including management for NEO, HESS, & LMS administration, coordination of PATH, HESS and other corporate led learning initiatives.
Supervises Training Specialist and LMS Administrator personnel and responsible for training budget.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Undergraduate in industrial hygiene or close related discipline such as occupational safety or environmental/public health preferred.
5+ years of relevant work experience required.
Experience in refining or petrochemical industries is preferred.
Supervisory experience is preferred.

SKILLS:

Strong communication, time management, interpersonal, and computer skills are also required.
Candidates should be thoroughly familiar with OSHA standards and have experience in safety auditing and incident investigation.
CIH certification preferred but must be able to sit for the CIH exam in the near future.
