United States Steel is looking for an Engineer that will be responsible for applying troubleshooting, and problem-solving techniques to evaluate and make decisions that optimize the primary steelmaking and casting process. This role will involve the development of innovative solutions to problems in steelmaking and casting area. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively engage teams and provide an environment of respect, communication, and collaboration through two-way communication and encouraging new ideas and different perspectives that drive individual, team, and company success.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Work with operations, quality assurance, and corporate teams to improve plant processes across all USS steel plants
• Ensure procedures in place for production of specific products
• Review customer quality issues and formulate preventative plans
• Evaluate new materials, processes, or implementation of new technologies
• Oversee trials in mill atmosphere
• Ability to write technical reports and communicate critical thinking
Qualifications
• BS Metallurgy /Materials Science or equivalent experience
• Understanding and experience in thick slab casters, CSP caster, ESP Caster, Rounds caster and secondary metallurgy (LMF/VTD/RH)
• Proficient in MS Office applications
• Ability to collect and analyze data to formulate conclusions
• Ability to work independently
• Over 60% Travel expected depending upon location
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in above machinery
• Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 9001 preferable
• Experience in project management or cost savings initiatives
• Ability to work in steel mill at varying schedules dependent on trial timing
