The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Sr. Medical Coder, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.

Here, you will make an impact with the following responsibilities:

Perform monthly and quarterly Surgery coding reviews on coders
May perform cardiology, surgical pathology, ambulatory surgery, emergency room, and/or other hospital outpatient visit coding reviews
Accurately code procedures and diagnoses according to policies and procedures
Conduct audits on independent coders as well as coding partners to ensure compliance with coding guidelines, individual client guidelines and provide reports to manager as directed
Perform educational services to clients based on the review results
Act as a liaison with the client HIM Department contact
Utilize various coding books, procedure manuals, and online encoders as a resource
Must be customer-service focused and exhibit professionalism, flexibility, dependability, desire to learn, commitment to excellence and commitment to profession
Be able to work from concurrent Quality reports as well as individual reports
Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and follow all state and federal guidelines for release of information
Maintain current working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding principles and government regulation protocols

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university

OR

High School Diploma/GED (completed and verified prior to start) and six (6) years of experience in healthcare

Three (3) years of experience in physician and facility Surgery coding
AAPC and/or AHIMA certification
ICD-10 trained and proficient

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

Associates degree in Health Information Management (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university
Hold a certification of any of these credentials; CPC, CPMA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, RRC, CIRCC, CCVTC
Ability to consistently code at 95% accuracy and quality while maintaining client specified standards.
Experience with CAC, Epic, Cerner etc.
