About the Role:
The Accounting Policy Specialist will be an integral part of the Finance Team and will work closely with Finance and Accounting leadership cohorts. This role reports to the Director of Technical Accounting.
The Accounting Policy Specialist is a key member of the Accounting and Finance Team and serves as an accounting subject matter expert to support global Kraken accounting processes. This role is responsible for implementation and oversight of the global Kraken accounting and finance policies and the monitoring and adoption of new U.S. GAAP accounting standards. Responsibilities also include assisting with the preparation of financial statements and evaluation of complex technical accounting issues as needed.
What you'll do:
Serve as a U.S. GAAP and Kraken accounting policy subject matter expert
Provide counsel to internal stakeholders including interpretation, application, and implementation of accounting and finance policies
Identify gaps in and continually improve global Kraken accounting and finance policies, draft and implement new policies, and apply policy governance best practices including periodic reviews with process owners
Monitor and implement new U.S. GAAP accounting standards and regulations including evaluating key impacts and communicating to internal stakeholders in a timely manner
Assist with the adoption of new U.S. GAAP accounting standards including coordinating with accounting process owners, developing implementation plans, and executing process, system, and financial reporting disclosure changes
Provide technical accounting support including performing accounting research, communicating recommendations to internal stakeholders, and implementing accounting processes for unusual and/or complex transactions on an ad hoc basis
Assist with preparation and review of disclosures in Kraken’s financial statements
Who you are:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, CPA preferred
Minimum of 6-years experience in corporate accounting (financial reporting, technical accounting, accounting policy, etc.) and/or public accounting
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting and financial reporting requirements, IFRS a plus
Attention to detail and ability to evaluate technical accounting concepts and complex transactions
Ability to work independently and adjust priorities to achieve accurate and timely results
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to collaborate across functions
