Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The position is for a geoscientist in the Guyana Exploration Team. Hess has an extensive acreage position in the Guyana basin covered by multiple 3D seismic data sets, complimented by basin-wide 2D seismic data. This highly dynamic team is engaged in an extensive exploration drilling campaign with an industry leading success rate.

The successful candidate will be able to combine strong quantitative geophysical skills with seismic and geologic interpretation.  A high degree of competence in AVO and QI workflows is important, as is an understanding of the drivers of seismic data quality. The position will require integration of geophysical knowledge with wells and seismic data at a regional to prospect scale to contribute to prospect generation, risking and volumes, well planning and drilling operations. Good communication skills combined with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team seeking innovative solutions in a fast-paced environment will be highly valued. The position reports to the exploration manager, Guyana.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to integrate geophysical, geologic and engineering data to understand well results and their implications for exploration and developments.
Utilization of quantitative interpretation methods with the appropriate tools to address subsurface risks and uncertainties.
Collaborate with others in the team to ensure a high standard of geological and geophysical rigor is applied to all prospects and projects.
Strong individual contributor and team player.
Effective project management, ability to multi-task.
Mentoring of colleagues and junior staff.
Active participant in partner TCMs with ability to influence operator with technical work and sound reasoning.
Additional duties could also include data room evaluations support.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

Minimum of 10 years’ experience.
Previous exploration experience is required; Atlantic margins preferred.
Experience and expertise to include, AVO analysis and experience handling gathers (PsPro experience advantageous), quantitative interpretation workflows, modelling AVO response, seismic attribute analysis, real-time geophysical operations including well ties. Familiarity with seismic processing, inversions and basic rock physics skills are advantageous.
The ideal candidate will also have experience in integrating geophysical and geological data such as deep water depositional and petroleum systems information together in order assess and prioritize prospectivity.
Strong analytical and synthesis skills and commitment to continued learning and improvement.
Well-developed sharing, listening, interpersonal, and collaboration skills are highly valued.
Comfortable with aggressive timelines.
Ability to manage projects with strong focus on delivery and presentation of results.
Experience in new ventures and or field development is a plus.

 

Education, Training & Certifications

Master of Science, in a Geoscience field or Geophysical Engineering degree required
Petrel (or Paradigm)
Rockdoc, PsPro or equivalents advantageous
Microsoft Office
