Position Summary:
It is the responsibility of the Assistant Manager, Spa to assist in the daily operations of the Spa (to include the spa, salon, fitness center, and pool areas) while providing excellent guest service. All duties are to be performed in accordance with federal, state, local laws, regulations, and ordinances, as well as department and Company policies, practices, and procedures, within the framework and intent of the MGM Grand Detroit Mission Statement.
Essential Functions:
Assists in developing a comprehensive standard facility operations manual, including written policies and procedures for all facility services, administration, and maintenance.
Submits all paperwork and financial reporting, including payroll, in accordance with MGM Grand Detroit policy.
Helps ensure appropriate facility supervisory coverage.
Provides excellent customer service and monitors guest feedback through the use of comment cards and other customer care techniques. Helps to supervise and follow up on guest requests and comments.
Assists in the recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of all facility staff.
Assists in developing the staffing schedule to ensure adequate coverage.
Supervises effective daily operations including opening and closing procedures, facility inspections, cash handling procedures and general facility maintenance.
Assists in developing monthly client reports.
Reviews weekly reports for retail and services.
Implements proper inventory and purchasing procedures.
Submits finalized Purchase Order’s to Assistant Director with recommendations and justifications.
Assists staff with lifting and storing facility equipment, furniture, and products to help maintain facility and prepare for special events.
Manages the Spa team to include efficient staffing, employee development and training, performance management and policy enforcement.
Promotes and maintains the highest level of customer service to all guests while staying alert to their needs.
Responds effectively to guest inquiries related to MGM Grand Detroit and the downtown Detroit area providing excellent guest service.
Resolves guest complaints within scope of authority; otherwise refers the matter to management. Notifies senior management and/or Security of all unusual events, circumstances, missing items, or alleged theft.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
21 years of age or older.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Three years experience as an Assistant Manager or Supervisor in a Spa or a major hotel/resort complex. Experience in a luxury setting preferred.
Knowledge of all state required certifications and licenses.
Knowledge of professional Spa services and treatments.
Knowledge of retail operations and inventory systems.
Creative in marketing and promotions, sales oriented.
Experience in multi-tasking of projects and project management.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Access and Power Point and Microsoft Project.
Excellent guest service and hospitality skills.
Strong analytical and listening skills.
Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Bilingual abilities preferred.
Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds at a time.
Ability to push and pull heavy items and equipment.
Ability to function and act independently.
Ability to work well with people, in a team environment, and to communicate effectively both written & oral.
Ability to work in an environment where pipe, cigar, and cigarette smoking is permitted.
Ability to function in a fast paced environment, under short time constraints, and within established deadlines.
