POSITION SUMMARY
The primary purpose of a collector is to pursue reimbursement of services rendered and achieve accounts receivable resolution. The Collector performs collection follow up steps with insurance carriers regarding open accounts receivables to result in maximum cash collections. Specific tasks include resolving insurance carrier’s denials, appealing claims, contacting payers on open accounts and responding to insurance carrier correspondence and/or inquiries.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
Contacting payers/patients on open accounts about billing discrepancies and/or questions.
Process and bill claims to insurance carriers by following billing rules and payer guidelines
Analyze denials and submit corrected claims and/or appeals.
Submit revenue adjustments based on payer explanation of benefits (EOB).
Process incoming correspondence by contacting payers/patients.
Follow up on claims submissions.
Expedite special billing situations such as date span, retro authorizations and appended authorizations.
Contacting physicians to secure clinical documentation to support medical necessity for supplies.
Participate in payer and internal audits.
Actively work with other departments to advise and assist in facilitating customer service.
