Job Summary
Provides the most senior level of legal services in matters of the complexity, sensitivity and having a significant financial impact on the Company. Has in-depth legal skill in one or more areas of the following: administrative, energy, or regulatory. Provides trusted analysis, proposed solutions, and representation. Leads and mentors’ attorneys and other legal personnel in the performance of legal matters and career development. May be called to represent the interests of the Company in any number of formal or informal legal proceedings including but not limited to federal, state or local judicial, administrative or alternative dispute resolution processes.
Key Accountabilities
Regularly participates in the resolution of complex, sensitive, or financially significant legal matters and sees that they are effectively resolved in an efficient manner.
May research legal principles and precedents, consult with outside counsel, draft and execute legal documents, gather relevant information using multiple sources and methods, provide work guidance to other professional or paraprofessional and support staff to develop solutions to business problems.
Works without legal supervision and collaboratively with all levels of internal clients.
Anticipates significant legal issues in practice area of expertise and independently devises innovative legal solutions to promote business objectives.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
Graduate of accredited law school and admitted to the state bar of permanent residence within a reasonable time.
At least ten (10) years of legal experience.
Other Qualifications
Experience practicing in an administrative forum in the field of energy or public utility law/regulation.
Exhibits exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication, written and presentation skills.
Analytic and problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
Ability to work in a team and/or matrix structure, supporting multiple clients, procedures and policy.
Cope with multiple demands from superiors, peers and subordinates in a positive and evenhanded fashion; displaying a calm demeanor under pressure.
Competent with prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, issues or projects that may include high-visibility initiatives and require innovation, teamwork and planning.
Initiate new ideas and approaches; challenging orthodox practices and approaches with reasonable and sound alternatives.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, i.e MS Word and Excel sufficient to apply them with minimal instruction or guidance.
