This Summer Internship is: 

May-August, 12 weeks  
In Dallas, Texas at our Headquarters Building  
Full-time, 40hrs a week M-F during normal business hours  
Workplace flexibility depends on the Team – we expect the Intern’s schedule of onsite/remote work to mirror that of their Team. The majority of roles will allow for occasional remote work.  
Interns will receive any needed equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship as well as a living stipend and internet stipend paid out one time on your first paycheck (less applicable taxes). 

The Regulatory Programs & Compliance Department is made up of four main workgroups: Assistant Director of Operations, Central Publications, Regulatory Programs and Compliance, and Operations Risk Management/Quality Assurance. The department’s purpose is to protect Southwest Airlines’ operating certificate. We achieve our mission by providing the appropriate level of Leadership, oversight, and support to the operation in alignment with Company objectives and regulatory requirements. 

Team Overview 

The Assistant Director of Operations Team (ADOT) is responsible for delegated authority from the Director of Operations, Supplemental Operations, DOD Contract, Operations Change Management, Operational Program Oversight, Department Strategy, and Cross Departmental Project Management.  
The Central Publications Team is a shared services Team that is primarily responsible for maintaining a system of manuals that provide work instructions to frontline and headquarters Employees.  
The Regulatory Programs and Compliance Team is responsible for oversight of key operational areas and acts as the main point of contact with the SWA Certificate Management Office. 
Operations Risk Management and Quality Assurance is responsible for oversight of Operations Safety Risk Management, the development of SWA risk management systems, and is also responsible for ensuring the quality of Operations training, procedure development, and equipment validation.  

Work Activities/Context:

The Regulatory Programs and Compliance Intern will assist this department with a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to: 

Concentrates on the management of research, data acquisition/analysis, and oversight of regulatory policies and procedures. 
Tracks and Trends Safety Assurance data and assists Leaders with the Safety Assurance process. 
Assists Leaders with the development and presentation of Safety & Regulatory data and projects  
Assists leaders in performing Root Cause Analysis during system assessments as a part of the Safety Assurance function. 
Assists Leaders with RP&C projects and procedural monitoring. 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by start date to comply with Executive Order 14042, which requires employees of federal contractors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

EDUCATION:

Progress towards degree in Aviation Management, Safety and Regulatory Compliance or Business related degree. 

Minimum junior level 

To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours). 

Maintained 3.0 or above cumulative GPA 

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE: 

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
Great Attention to detail 
Excellent time management skills required
Strong oral and written communication skills required 
Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) preferred 
Experience with Pivot Tables, Vlookup preferred 
Experience in root cause analysis and trend analysis preferred 
Aviation Safety or Regulatory Compliance experience (i.e. organizations, previous internship, or work experience). 
Self-starter, critical thinker and innovator of ideas that could lower cost and increase value for SWA 
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines 
Problem solving ability with strong written/verbal communications skills 
Ability to work independently and willingness to function as part of a Team 
Passion for Aviation. 
Ability to Live the Southwest Way.
