Position Summary
The Terminal Operator operates a multi-product cavern storage facility and is responsible for safely loading/unloading bulk liquid products at a dual truck and rail terminal. The Terminal Operator is responsible for ensuring product quality, maintaining positive community relations, and for complying with regulatory requirements and Company procedures. Additionally, the Terminal Operator is expected to assist in the operations and maintenance of the facility and equipment.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Performs inspection of the dock, terminal tank farm and rail spur area daily for leaks, spills, broken security seals, and satisfactory general housekeeping; drives company vehicle as required to traverse facility to perform inspections and work activities
Assesses leaks, spills, and damage situations to determine level of response required and may act as Incident Commander as appropriate; has authority to suspend operations, authorize emergency contractors to begin work, and secure additional personnel to execute response plan
Assists drivers in loading and unloading trucks; responsible for communicating and/or training contractors and drivers regarding all safety requirements and for enforcing rules (especially truck loading and unloading procedures)
Reviews insurance certificates on carriers and contractors to ensure all are current
Attends all product transfers at the terminal to insure product integrity and avoid contamination of any products; ensures minimum quality standards are met and has authority to reject deliveries as appropriate; Collects, secures, labels, and stores samples for all receipts and applicable deliveries
Prepare Bills-of-Lading and/or Declaration of Inspections; completes relevant checklists and receipt/delivery rate sheets for each truck or rail movement
Responds to customer information requests and generates necessary reports for customer accounts, billings, and inventory replacement
Secures meter and tank gauge readings; secures storage tank measurements before and after all receipts and other times as directed; balances tank gauges and meter tickets to support daily over/short analysis
Secures daily temperature from each tank and from delivery vehicles as required
Monitors work and adherence to safety requirements for outside contractors working on our property; may supervise on-site contractor activity as needed
Performs preventive and routine maintenance on facilities and/or equipment as appropriate
May assist with training of new employees; may cross-train in alternate roles or functions
Regular physical attendance at the worksite is required
Required Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
Valid Driver License and acceptable driving record for insurability requirements
Ability to obtain and maintain required licenses or certifications for safety & regulatory compliance
Experience in a similar hazardous material handling role is preferred; experience in oil & gas industry is a plus
Training Requirements
Obtains & maintains HAZWOPER certification as required under 40 CFR 112 including First Responder Training (24 hours)
Participates in DOT HM126F training and annual updates as required
Attends all required monthly safety meetings and participates in annual fire protection & response training
Attends all required spill response drills including the following: QI Drill, Tabletop Drill, Contractor Deployment, Contractor Equipment Inspection, In-House Equipment Inspection

Terminal Operators must:
Be able to regularly lift, push, or pull a maximum of 75 pounds
Accurately perform precision work requiring visual acuity, fine motor skills, and concentration
Perform physically demanding work involving walking, standing, bending, twisting, wrist turning, grasping, lifting, squatting, kneeling, reaching, stooping, crawling, climbing, or assuming awkward postures for 8+ hours
Be physically able to frequently climb tank stairways, truck and rail ladders and possess the ability and agility to safely climb on tanks and railcars
Demonstrate manual dexterity adequate to effectively use basic hand tools and equipment including, but not limited to, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
Possess the ability to hear normal voice at 3 feet and to hear warning signals/horns during plant operations
Demonstrate near/distant vision for driving and reading gauges & information to complete work assignments; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color differentiation, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
Be able to smell liquefied petroleum gas (Odorant) to perform safe handling of materials at extreme temperatures
