Basic Function
The Product and Applications Development (PAD) Engineer will be responsible for the development of new products, applications, or manufacturing processes, and provide internal and external product technical support for LyondellBasell's Advanced Polymer Solutions segment in their North America automotive compounding business. This position is located at LyondellBasell’s Lansing, Michigan facility.
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsible for “cradle to grave” support of Polypropylene compounded resins for use in automotive applications. Key skills include: problem solving, communication, supplier/raw material developments, organization ability, multitasking, and responsiveness. Candidate must have ability to relate fundamental polymer or mechanical concepts to resolve material related problems
• Support the business growth strategies by development of new or modified differentiated products, applications, or processes to meet market or customer objectives, lower overall cost, or improve application performance.
• Manage all activities involving existing PP Compounds and new product development (product design, scales-up, commercialization, quality plan, and product stewardship)
• Develop new PP Compounds for automotive and/or select non-automotive applications
• Support commercialization of PP Compounds (quality, manufacturing, and OEM approvals)
• Manage specific set of raw materials, work with raw material suppliers to expand product capabilities, develop best practice technologies and communicate with technology team.
• Act as technical focal point at customer and OEM representing product and company
• Follow HSE and safety guidelines
• Address customer problems as related to materials
Min. Qualifications
• Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree is required preferablly in the field of Polymer Science, Material Science, Plastics Engineering, Chemistry, or Related Engineering degree. MS or Ph.D. preferred.
• Preference is a minimum of 3 years’ working experience with Polymers or Polymer Compound development and/or support preferably in the Automotive Market with a basic understanding of automotive OEM approval processes or automotive quality systems and procedures.
• Entry level would require a Master's degree or PhD .
