JOB SUMMARY: Visually inspects and performs hydrostatic test of DOT rated cylinders in accordance with CGA guidelines.
SCOPE AND IMPACT:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Examines returned cylinders for surface defects such as dents, cracks and burns and move cylinders to designated work area. Tests elasticity of cylinder walls.
Operates, calibrates and performs simple maintenance on computerized hydrostatic testing equipment.
Removes valves from cylinders using wrench or valve-removal equipment after ensuring it is safe to de-pressurize the cylinder. Maintains a system to ensure the valve is replaced on the cylinder it came from.
Fills cylinder with water, seals cylinder and immerses cylinder in water-filled jacket using chain hoist.
Compares pressure reading with specifications and segregates cylinders that exceed prescribed expansion limits.
Stamps test date and company symbol on cylinder. Marks cylinder in the manner described in 49 CFR Section 173.34(e)(6).
Demonstrates knowledge of DOT special exemptions CFR 49 Section 173.34 and CGA pamphlets specified in CFR 49 Section 173.34 and performs all duties in keeping with the company’s safety policies and procedures.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shot blast and paint cylinders as needed
Assist with loading and unloading trucks and/or trailers when required
Assist with inventory, general housekeeping, and help customers when necessary

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and to respond to questions.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
