Job Summary:
The position encompasses Contract Surety underwriting of standard and preferred contract account business and the position is located in Austin, TX.
The focus of the position includes reviewing, analyzing new opportunities and existing account business in determining their overall credit risk quality and to ensure profitability for Markel Surety within the Mid-Market and National Account segments.
Other duties include:
Communicate with underwriting management and senior leadership on individual standard / preferred accounts, current and proposed agency/specific producers, and make recommendations concerning operations, systems and procedures when appropriate.
Review account exposures and conduct contractor meetings while underwriting new and existing business via their agency/producer plant and handle related servicing and account management responsibilities related to their book of business.
Monitor and manage producer relationships for profitability, new business opportunities, and production.
Conduct marketing responsibilities to producers within their responsible territories by coordinating marketing plans with underwriting management along with the commercial bond underwriting department as well as participate in audits and/or underwriting meetings as required.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and/or 4 years of experience in profitable contract surety underwriting required;
Existing contract account business and agency/producer relationships preferred
Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of progression of increasing responsibility.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and skilled presentation aptitude.
Technologically savvy; proficient in Word, Outlook, & Excel.
Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
Must be a team player that enjoys a flexible and spontaneous business environment.
Flexible to travel approximately 30% when appropriate.
Ability to work in a hybrid work model of three days in the office every week.
