Job Description

Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Powerhouse Boiler Engineer to join our Specialty Ingredients G.P., business at our Parlin, NJ location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the Plant Operations function. This position will report to the Plant Engineer.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Oversees and runs two (2) 800 hp packaged firetube boilers and auxiliary equipment; including, but not limited to boiler water treatment equipment
Oversees and runs two (2) 1000 SCFM Plant Air Compressors and auxiliary equipment
Oversees the main incoming distribution and transfer of electrical loads with the proper PPE during plant outages
Oversees and runs the plant firewater pumps and associated equipment in the pump house
Oversees and runs the groundwater pump and treatment systems
Start-up and shutdown of all powerhouse equipment
Weekly exercise the operation of equipment, including, but not limited to sample collection and water chemical tests
Other duties assigned by Management, including, but not limited to maintaining operating log books

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) plus technical course work
Current New Jersey Blue Seal High Pressure License
Current New Jersey Driver’s License
Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
Must represent knowledge, skill, and/ or ability required for the position
Must be willing to and able to work outdoors as necessary
Position is a 24/7/365 Operation. Must be willing to work rotating shifts as required by the position, weekends and holidays
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Must be willing to work all overtime necessary, and in cooperation with the other Engineers/ Operators to ensure the job is covered
Knowledge and experience of how to troubleshoot mechanical issues

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to effectively interact and communicate with all departments and levels of the organization
Experience in a union environment
Computer experience
New Jersey Red Seal Boiler License
Relevant military experience will be considered
