Harley-Davidson is on a mission to the lead the electrification of the Motorcycle Industry and is excited to open our Silicon Valley Product Development Innovation Center focused on EV Systems. We are looking for a Staff Power Electronics Engineer to join our experienced team driving the innovation, design and development of EV components for H-D’s future portfolio of HV and LV electric vehicles.

In this position you will:

•    Design power electronics components for our future EV’s, including Inverter, On-Board Charger (OBC) and DCDC Converter.
•    Work closely with the engineering team on technology development strategy supporting current and future benchmarks for weight, package, performance, efficiency, and cost.
•    Perform circuit simulations to predict functionality, efficiency and thermal performance.
•    Develop end-of-line testing.
•    Plan and execute of Design Verification (DV).
•    Plan and execute Product Validation (PV). 
•    Plan and execute HW DFMEA.
•    Plan and lead execute FMEDA.
•    Execute root cause analysis for test failure reports and field returns.
•    Contribute to overall conformance to well-adopted international standards including ISO26262, as well as global regulatory requirements.
 

Education Required:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. 

Knowledge & Experience Required:

Strong foundation in knowledge of power electronics products for EV powertrain such as Inverters, On-Board Chargers (OBC) and DCDC Converters. Hands-on experience in power electronics hardware development: design, debugging and validation.

Experience in the following is also preferred:

•    Approximately 5-7 years’ experience in power semiconductor circuit design for AC-to-DC and/or DC-to-AC converters.
•    Working knowledge of power transistor gate drive circuits.
•    Demonstrated understanding of power semiconductor switching waveforms, loss modeling and thermal management.
•    Experience with power levels from 500W to 50kW+.
•    General understanding of EMI/EMC design best practices.
•    Application knowledge or experience with wide band gap semiconductors including GaN and SiC.
•    Power Electronics laboratory experience.  Knowledge of data acquisition tools – LabView / Veristand, CANalyzer, Neo VI, etc.
•    Understanding of development requirements for OEM production programs (DVPR).
•    Design for Manufacturing, Design for Reliability, DFMEA and fault trees.
•    New Product Introduction (NPI) experience highly preferred, but not required.
