Job Description

Basic Function

HollyFrontier Puget Sound Refinery (formerly Shell Puget Sound Refinery) located in Anacortes, WA is seeking a Process Operator who is responsible for learning the skills to operate their assigned processing unit. The Process Operator performs work as directed by supervision and follows written and oral instructions regarding process conditions to maintain, specifications to meet, and stock product routing and disposal. The Process Operator will direct and participate in operations of the assigned equipment in accordance with orders and minimal supervision, and will follow established procedures.  

Job Duties

Supports the refinery safety process and maintains on the job safety vigilance
Works rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays as scheduled
Responds to callouts and holdovers
Reviews daily orders at shift relief
Checks instruments, records rounds in PM schedule, checks equipment and assures that the operation and equipment conform to operating requirements
Operates equipment manually and/or by instrument/computer control, maintaining temperatures, pressures, levels, and/or other process variables to meet planned production and quality
Fires furnaces, operates pumps, sets lines and manifolds, changes blinds and jump-overs, operates compressors, gauges tanks, draws samples, runs control tests, sends samples to the Lab, and adjusts chemical injection rates.
Repairs equipment as required and within ability to accomplish repairs safely and requests maintenance support as necessary
Performs other work, such as lubricating equipment, cleanup and housekeeping

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

Previous Process Operator or Chemical Operator experience preferred.

Education Level

High school diploma or GED required. Associate Degree or two-year technical process degree preferred.

Required Skills

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future without requiring sponsorship.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must currently hold or can qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Note, information regarding TWIC qualification standards may be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
Must be able to read, speak, and write English fluently and understand operating procedures.
Must demonstrate a competency at using a process computer interface to manipulate and control an operating process unit.
Formal education and/or training related to production operations or a related skill area is preferred.
Previous experience in a petro-chemical facility, an industrial or manufacturing environment or prior military experience and/or training is preferred.
Emergency Response and/or Fire Fighting training, experience, and/or certification is preferred.
Must possess and maintain a current valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
Willingness to take and achieve satisfactory results on Holly Frontier’s pre-employment testing battery.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Basic computer skills, mechanically inclined, understanding and ability to comply with all Federal, State, Local, and Company regulations, policies, guidelines, and procedures, including use of tools (hand tools and power tools) and operation(s) of scissor lift/man-lift. Required to complete all required certifications and training to know and become competent in basic tasks under direct supervision while completing classroom and CBT training. Ability to effectively communicate with others (written and verbal), basic reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
