Position Summary
As Chemist, Analytical your focus will be grape and wine chemistry, applying knowledge of Analytical Chemistry to improve setup and optimization of instrumentation to address Analytical Chemistry needs. This position is based in our Technical Services group and supports our research projects/experiments and production to ensure consumer-driven wine quality from vineyard to shelf. Experienced hands-on Analytical Chemist in working with volatile and non-volatile compounds using headspace analyses and data reduction.
Responsibilities
Apply knowledge of Analytical Chemistry testing to support ongoing product guidance and process optimization studies for our lead products, to include data analysis and reporting to Winegrowers, Winemaking, and QC teams using well-established analytical methods
Implement analytical methodologies for relevant wine components and continuously improve these through research and technology.
Critical thinking to recommend and implement improvements in data acquisition, laboratory operations and methodology, integrating state of the art methods from packaged goods industry into Constellation Brands Inc.’s business.
Ability to maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot various analytical instruments and their corresponding software components.
Performed grape/wine extractions with subsequent GC/LC/MS analyses and data reduction of volatile/semi-volatiles
Work cross-functionally with Sensory and Winemaking production partners on innovative projects of major interest to the wine industry - explaining the linkage between grape and wine chemical composition.
Train junior team members
Ability to communicate effectively between technical counterparts in all operations, write reports and make data presentations as needed.
Special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
Ability to function alone or in a team laboratory environment and make contributions beyond specific job function.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Must maintain satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness
Individual must be self-starting and highly motivated to achieve the responsibilities described herein.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or equivalent discipline
3+ years in Analytical Chemistry with proven success calibrating, operating, trouble shooting and maintaining analytical instruments, such as Gas/Liquid Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometry systems, spectrometers, photometers, calorimeters, etc.
Knowledge of analytical procedures and equipment
Strong attention to detail
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions/directions
Ability to prioritize and multi-task
Must be able to recognize potential problems that require solutions to be found at a higher level
Strong communication and documentation skills
Skilled in the use of MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint at an intermediate level.
Strong interpersonal skills
Able to work a flexible schedule with overtime as requested, including weekends and off shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Fermentation Science, Food Science
Statistical analysis of data
Previous winery experience and knowledge of various wine types
