POSITION SUMMARY

This position is for a broad Advisor role working in the Exploration Strategy and Planning team, with close ties to both Exploration Finance and Supply Chain function reporting to the Exploration Planning Director, based in Houston.  The role provides budget monitoring and control of the Seismic G&G and G&G Other annual spend and quarterly reporting to the VPs of Exploration. It has an important contracts and external relationship interface with the key seismic companies and the way they work.

The Exploration Strategy and planning team is responsible for budget and plan preparation with the Director Exploration Finance and VP Exploration Strategy and Portfolio.  To this end, budget tracking and spend against the key expense items seismic and geologic studies needs to be constantly monitored over the course of each cycle.

The role requires some experience in business planning and performance monitoring for a conventional oil and gas company. A basic understanding of geologic and geophysical activities involved in exploration that are being acquired from the external suppliers would be an advantage.  It is ideal for a dynamic high-energy individual seeking a significant opportunity to impact the company’s future.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitoring Exploration expense against the Budget and Plan. VP Exploration exposure.
Interfaces with the Exploration Director Finance
Director Geophysical Excellence, Exploration Managers as customers in seismic purchases and processing project set-up
External contractor supplier relationships with seismic and geological activity provision, including transaction closing and documentation against established
Interface with Hess supply chain organization
Effective project management, ability to multi-task

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

Bachelors degree in business, science or related discipline preferred.  Relevant professional experience will also be considered. 
Minimum of 8 years of professional relevant experience.  5 plus years relevant industry experience strongly preferred
Contract awareness and eye for detail on issues that matter for G&G expense
Understanding of seismic acquisition, processing and multi-client products. Working knowledge of the key seismic contractors.
Subsurface background an advantage
Strong analytical and synthesis skills and commitment to continued learning and improvement
Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal and collaboration skills
Well-developed sharing, listening and collaboration skills are highly valued
Comfortable with managing senior leadership conversations to VP level
Ability to manage projects with strong focus on both timing of delivery balanced with quality of outcome
