Job Description
Overview
The HarperOne Group is currently seeking a Designer to create original covers and jackets for the HarperVia, Amistad, HarperEspañol, and MLK Library imprints.
Responsibilities
Designs original covers and jackets (hardcover and paperback).
Designs and routes jacket and cover mechanicals and works collaboratively with Art Director and Senior Designer through to production stage.
Makes reprint corrections.
Makes backlist corrections.
Assists with image research.
Converts hardcover designs to paperback format.
Provides general assistance on special projects.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of design experience required
Book cover design experience strongly preferred
Strong illustration and hand-lettering skills (preferred)
Excellent organizational and communication skills with attention to detail
Ability to prioritize under pressure
Strong Mac skills and design competence with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
A strong interest in books (fiction and nonfiction)
Awareness of design and market trends
Ability to speak and read Spanish a plus
