Job Description

Supervising Physician

Direct supervisor for assigned staff, including performance management activities, staff development, orientation and training activities.
Works to achieve quality medical care and outcomes for patients, in a cost-effective manner.
Provides "on call" coverage as requested, generally as back up physician.
Improves clinical outcomes through daily interactions with providers, using education and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Provides direct daily clinical oversight for new providers until such a time as oversight can be decreased with a minimum of 10% review of records.
Participates in quality processes such as medical documentation audits, inter rater reliability actions and quality projects.
Serves as a mentor or coach to nurse practitioners in ongoing quality and performance improvement processes.
Improves provider relations through direct communication, knowledge of appropriate evidence-based clinical information, and the fostering of positive collegial relationships.
Addresses customer service issues with mentoring and support from leadership staff.
Investigates and responds to client or stakeholder questions to assist in resolving issues with mentoring and support from leadership staff.
Achieves customer satisfaction and regulatory/accreditation agency compliance goals by assuring timely and complete documentation, including documentation of appropriate clinical measures and metrics.
Provides clinical insight and management support to other functional areas and matrix partners as needed or directed.

Qualifications

Board-certified physician in an ABMS or AOA-recognized specialty and with a current unrestricted medical license.
Exhibits ethical and professional behavior.
Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience beyond internship, residency, or fellowship training.
Preferred: Prior physician leadership positions.
Preferred: Experience in medical and case management, knowledge of HEDIS and Stars measures and managed care experience.
Computer Competency: Microsoft Office - Word, Powerpoint, Excel competency, EMR utilization, on line medical research.
Ability to work within a changing business environment and balance patient advocacy with business needs.
Experience with managing multiple projects in a fast paced matrix environment.
Demonstrated ability to educate colleagues and staff members.
Successful experience with change management.
Demonstration of strong and effective teamwork, negotiation, conflict management, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Successful ability to assess complex issues, to determine and implement their solutions, and to resolve problems.
