Position Summary:
The Animal Nutrition Research group of Archer Daniels Midland Company is seeking a senior scientist in the field of companion animal research. This position will be responsible for leading the ideation, development, and execution of ADM’s innovation projects. The Senior Scientist will possess the ability to work closely with the business team, supply chain, customers as well as demonstrate strong consumer empathy. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of feed ingredients and solution technologies and how they affect digestive physiology, metabolism and wellness of companion animals. This scientist will develop, lead and manage internal projects as well as collaborations with new and existing external partners including pet food companies, universities, contract organizations. In addition, the role will advise colleagues across ADM business units including Operations, Regulatory and Quality Control on processes and product development. The successful candidate will be proficient in external technical support for commercialization of new ingredients, products, and complete pet foods in destination markets.
Job Responsibilities:
Design and lead a robust research program from concept to market
Provide solutions for customer needs
Make recommendations to management concerning research investments and infrastructure
Develop relationships with academic, industry, and government funding agencies
Prepare peer-reviewed scientific papers and presentations.
Prepare invention disclosures and support pursuit of intellectual property
Provide advice on commodity processing and feed manufacturing to enable commercialization of new ingredients
Provide nutritional recommendations and subject matter expertise to internal colleagues (e.g. Regulatory, Quality Control)
Job Requirements:
Ph.D. in Companion Animal Nutrition or related field
Minimum of five years of pet food industry experience; ten years preferred
Demonstrated ability to design, coordinate and execute research programs
Willingness to work in the laboratory and with biological materials as needed
Participate and influence teams to drive alignment and successful delivery of goals.
Proven proficiency in written and verbal communication
Ability to communicate to diverse audiences including technical and non-technical partners
