The Role

Fixed Income Technology is looking for a principal full stack developer to join the Fixed Income Investment Tools Development Team in our Merrimack office. As a member of our team, you will be co-located with our investment team and interact directly with portfolio managers, quant analysts, traders and investment operations teams to create new and innovative tools that will support and enhance our investment process. These tools are critically important to the work of the investment team in managing risk, adding return and operating our business. You will be embedded with the investment team as a key technology partner supporting the investment process.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

BS in Computer Science or equivalent degree and over eight years of professional experience
Experience developing applications using a broad stack of technologies (UI, API, data, etc.) such as Angular, Python, SQL, Excel VBA
Experience working with large data sets, data visualization tools, and databases
Solid grasp of how to use rapid development approaches bringing to bear enterprise capabilities to deliver robust business solutions
Ability to contribute to technical discussions and design, analyzing problems and provide recommendations
Extremely versatile and comfortable working alongside investment professionals as well as developing creative technical solutions
Ability to respond to a variety of requests and being able to prioritize them effectively
Excellent communication skills and brings excitement that builds collaboration and community
Ability to leverage existing components, API’s, and frameworks as well as contribute to them to speed delivery and increase reliability
Ability to learn new technology, business workflows, concepts, processes and contribute to the investment process
Negotiating a balance between “absolute best” and “efficient and practical” to good effect
Trusted technical partner that collaborates closely with investment professionals to understand and respond to business needs
Develop clear and concise documentation for delivered tools to ensure proper support from other team’s members
Passionate about writing code with quality and using automation at its best

Due to the breadth and complexity of the various securities held in Fixed Income funds, our technology must keep pace with changes in investment markets, strategies, and regulations. The Investor Tools Development (ITD) team works directly with investment professionals using a variety of technologies and digital tools to build solutions supporting and enabling the investment process. Asset Management Technology (AMT) provides worldwide technology and support to all the Investment Management, Research, Trading and Investment Operations functions. AMT is an integral partner for Asset Management to deliver innovative, scalable, industry-leading investment tools that enable Asset Management to achieve competitive advantage globally

History of Fidelity Investments

The Fidelity Fund was established in 1930, a year after the stock market crash of 1929 and before the Great Depression of 1933. The fund continued to operate until 1943 when it was acquired by Boston-based lawyer Edward C. Johnson II. At the time, the fund reported assets under management valued at $3 million. In 1946, Johnson II founded the Fidelity Management and Research Company, now Fidelity Investments, to serve as an investment advisor to the Fidelity Fund. When running the fund, Johnson’s objective was to buy stocks with a potential for growth, and not necessarily blue-chip stocks.

The mutual fund division comprises three divisions – equity, high-income, and fixed income divisions. The company operates Fidelity Contrafund, the largest non-indexed mutual fund in the United States, with over $107.4 billion in assets. Fidelity Investments also owns Fidelity Magellan, which was at one time managed by former CEO and President Ned Johnson. Fidelity Magellan manages assets totaling $15.5 billion.
