ROLE SUMMARY
The Multi-Skill Specialist provides the skill set normally required of millwrights, sheet metal workers, pipefitters, and electricians (as authorized) and general industrial mechanics in tobacco processing areas.
The role performs fabrications and makes repairs and adjustments to mechanical tobacco processing equipment and other mechanical systems in a safe and efficient manner and is responsible for machine health and overall equipment and system effectiveness.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Build, install, inspect, test, repair and modify various types of building and tobacco processing mechanical equipment and mechanical systems.
Diagnose machine and mechanical system problems and perform corrective maintenance accordingly.
Perform preventive maintenance, including machine and area cleaning.
Take measurements and perform calculations necessary for the fabrication, installation, and repair of items such as: conveying equipment, process equipment and piping, pumps, gearboxes, catwalks, bumper rails, floor plating, cranes, hoists, fans, and other similar items.
Perform minor electrical work and use electrical testers as authorized.
Use precision levels and lasers to align and set machinery.
Work from blueprints and schematics.
Use hand tools and measuring devices common to the disciplines.
Use pipe threaders, metal shears and other powered machinery common to the disciplines.
Work in a confined space as authorized.
Operate industrial vehicles, use and climb ladders and use powered lifts
Order parts, enter work history, and create machine repair records through direct interaction with advanced Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Computerized Maintenance Management System, Parts Ordering System and Document Management System computer applications.
Perform procedures and work assignments in keeping with safety requirements and GMP standards.
Effectively communicate with peers and management.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE ESSENTIAL
Experience:
Three years mechanical experience performing maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required:
Microsoft Office Professional Suite.
WorkKeys: Reading for Information @ Level 4, Applied Mathematics @ Level 4, Locating Information @ Level 4, Observation @ Level 2 (preferred).
Ability to make repairs and adjustments to mechanical manufacturing equipment.
Working knowledge of electrical circuits and testers, sheet metal, pipefitting, and millwright functions.
Physical Requirements:
Occasionally lift/position materials to 97 lbs.
Standing, reaching, lifting, pulling, stooping, bending.
Able to use and climb ladders.
Work at heights up to 40 feet.
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Industrial Systems Technology – Machine Operator Certificate
Or
Certificate in a related field/military equivalent/three years’ work experience in at least one of the following disciplines: Millwright, Sheet Metal Worker, Pipefitter, or Electrician (NC Licensed)
Or
Three years’ work experience as a Multi-Skill worker in a manufacturing facility.
