The Patient Care Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and collecting necessary information for all Pre-service departments within John Muir Health following the Centralized Scheduling model. Ensures the integrity of registration data collected, including insurance and benefit verification, acquisition of referrals and pre-certifications for procedures, and collection of patient financial liability.
This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday – Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 9:00am – 5:30 pm PST. We offer 8 -12 weeks of on the job training. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. Our office is located at 5003 Commercial Cir, Concord, CA 94520.

Primary Responsibilities

Schedules patient appointments obtaining all patient demographic, insurance, diagnosis and procedure information and Verifies accurate insurance plan code assignment.
Works with doctors offices to ensure an authorization has been obtained for all services requiring one.
Informs patients and providers that a necessary authorization has not been obtained or that a procedure is being flagged as not medically necessary and that the patient may need to sign a non-covered services waiver on arrival.
Utilize clinical knowledge to determine if the doctors order is consistent with the diagnosis provided.
Coordinates schedules with anesthesiologists, radiologists and other providers.
Informs patients of necessary advance preparation for procedures.
Coordinates appointments for patients with multiple procedures.
Ensures test results and prior films and reports are obtained.
Performs schedule blocks as indicated.
Cross-trains on Financial Counselor functions, filling in as needed.
Meets productivity standards, quality review expectations, unit specific goals and reporting requirements as assigned.

Required Qualifications
* High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
* 2 years of healthcare industry experience
* Ability to pass Epic – Proficiency within 90 days of start date
* Ability to work Full Time, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm PST
* Employees are

required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained.

Preferred Qualifications
* Previous experience in hospital, surgery or specialty procedure scheduling
* Knowledge of insurance health plans, coverage and authorization process
* 1 years of Registration-Admitting experience
* 1 years of Health Information Management
