As the Director, Data Science you will:
Partner with peer data science leaders to set department’s strategy to enable the design of scalable, end-to-end analytics solutions, and identify and build new opportunities for cross-squad collaboration, increased code sharing across teams, and enhanced scalability of solutions across multiple partner groups. Drive strategy around implementing new data science methodologies and selection of new tools.
Partner with analytics product managers to anticipate, identify and facilitate the solution to enterprise issues concerning critical business needs, and support product road-mapping and prioritization decisions across the analytics portfolio.
Partner with engineering teams to influence enterprise-level data products, IT architecture, and engineering platform strategies to meet the needs of business and the data science solutions. Help shape Nike’s central data science platform by identifying foundational data science capabilities and creating scalable, reusable, and customizable analytical components.
Work with key business partners to understand and anticipate current and future business needs. Evangelize data science and help senior leadership identify business areas where data science will make the biggest impact. Evangelize the value of analytic products through effective storytelling and collaboration with key partners.
Keep abreast of technology trends as well as emerging data science tools, techniques, and standard methodologies.
Recruit, manage, mentor, and inspire data science team(s); managing performance, goals and development potential. Cultivate professional development opportunities. Help team members establish development goals, set goals with business priorities, develop for the future, and evaluate success.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
You will be on the leadership team of Global Commercial Analytics Data Science team. You will collaborate closely with your peers in analytics, business partners, product management, and technology. Core partners include Demand and Supply Management (demand planning, supply and inventory planning) and Supply Chain.
WHAT YOU BRING
8 years of hands-on engineering experience developing BI systems and working with big data
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
A strong problem solving and analytical approach. Excels at critical thinking
Able to influence and communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with team members, business partners and leadership
Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve both people and process related issues
Able to influence critical business outcomes in a matrix based, global environment
Expert understanding of solution and technical design
Excellent communication skills and experience in conveying complex information in easy-to-understand language.
Experience in building successful data science teams. Experience leading multiple teams and the development of complex solutions
Understand the ecosystem of diverse skills that need to come together to make a large-scale data science project successful. Extensive and/or in-depth knowledge of data science, machine learning, and optimization modeling and algorithms.
Demonstrated understanding of market demand and supply interactions. Familiarity with common data sets related to products, consumers, market performance and supply chain.
Demonstrated experience in leading technical projects at enterprise scale and managing a team through all stages of Data Science/Analytics lifecycle.
Strong familiarity with modern software practices, technologies and programming languages, such as Python, SQL, Git.
Strong familiarity with the Agile development process and proven ability to prepare a project plan, communicate the plan to the team and break the work down to trackable tasks.
Proven track record of effectively influencing and collaborating with multi-functional partners to identify new opportunities, solve complex business problems and build impactful analytics solutions.
Deep knowledge and experience with a diversity of tools and platforms (Prefer experience w/ Python, Spark, AWS or other cloud environments). Able to quickly pick up new programming languages, technologies, and frameworks
