Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for managing and leading supplier Food Safety & Quality Assurance programs and activities.  The scope of the position involves assurance that all new and existing suppliers of raw materials and packaging are following all Smucker Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory standards.  This position interacts with procurement, operations, R&D, consumer contact, co-pack QA, co-pack operations, regulatory and production planning groups on a frequent basis.  This position acts as a liaison between suppliers, procurement, JMS internal plants and cross-functional teams to improve food safety and quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for managing and implementing supplier Food Safety & Quality programs and procedures.  The scope of the position involves assurance that all new and existing suppliers comply with all Regulatory, Food Safety and Quality standards.

Lead and manage team that focuses on assigned ingredient or packaging portfolio ensuring suppliers meet program requirements for food safety and quality, people development, and continuous improvement
Ensure compliance and improvements to Approval Process for qualification of new material suppliers
Conduct audits at supplier locations prior to purchasing and as required per program requirements
Manage quality and food safety expectations for existing ingredient supply chain which includes but not limited to: audit corrective action follow-up, facilitate discussion between Smucker plant and supplier when quality or food safety issues require mitigation, support internal raw material sampling and testing protocol and data analysis, etc.
Develop and manage quality systems with a continuous improvement mindset for programs such as supplier documentation management system (TraceGains) and product specification system (Prodika)
Maintain and review ingredient supplier documentation 
Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers to more effectively address issues
Monitor compliance to Smucker Ingredient Specifications through receiving data and Supplier Non-Conformance Report review and work to reduce non-conformances
Maintain Approved Vendor List for Ingredient usage in Smucker products
Maintain Raw Material Hazard Analysis for related ingredient portfolios
Other projects as needed

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education

A Bachelor's degree is required? a Food Science or related scientific degree is preferred
Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (human or animal food) or HACCP experience is preferred

Experience

Minimum 3 years' experience in manufacturing environment with Operations, QA or R&D experience
Quality experience in manufacturing environment is preferred
At least 5 years of progressive experience QA/Food Safety is required
Previous experience with external supplier or co-manufacturing relationship is preferred
Previous people management experience is preferred

Other

Solid working knowledge of quality assurance, food manufacturing, packaging, processing and distribution               
Strong ability to work in cross-functional & team-oriented environment with multiple disciplines
Proven capabilities in the area of project management
Self-starter; take charge, positive & proactive attitude
Easily understands & follow directions
Ability to lead several projects altogether and concurrently
Detail & process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities
Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Specification management system like Prodika, etc.)
Ability to communicate clearly within the organization and externally
High emotional intelligence and ability to work with ever changing conditions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Position may require up to 40% travel annually
