We are currently seeking a full-time Disaster Recovery Caseworker for our Philadelphia, PA facility, the Red Cross House.

This position is currently remote, but is expected to return to in-person work at the Red Cross House when it is deemed safe and necessary to do so by organizational leadership.

Job Summary

The Disaster Recovery Caseworker will supervise and work alongside volunteers, partners, and staff to provide casework and short-term residential support to individuals and families affected by disasters in the Philadelphia area. This will include assisting clients with securing new housing, providing financial assistance (in compliance with Red Cross compliance requirements), conflict mediation, mental health support, intensive community resource navigation, liaising with community leaders and partners, and developing resources and partnerships on behalf of clients' long-term recovery needs, as well as other duties as assigned. The Caseworker will assist families in understanding the implications and complexities of their situation, and act as a creative advocate, empathetic ear, and proactive resource navigator supporting families developing their post-disaster recovery plans.?

The Caseworker will also serve as a leader and subject matter expert in Red Cross casework and recovery planning in Southeastern Pennsylvania, continuously developing and disseminating expertise and working with staff and volunteers throughout the area to move the mission of the Red Cross forward. teamwork, creativity, and compassion are essential functions of this role and will be key in the success of the right candidate. Responsibilities:

1. Interview client and family, coordinate and plan services to meet immediate and ongoing needs.

2. In scope of position, represents full disaster cycle of preparedness, response, and recovery.

3. Ensures that American Red Cross services are available to diverse communities.

4. Identify and address psychosocial needs of client and family members; assistance with coping skills, stress management and anticipatory grief and grief reaction.

5. Provide ongoing support for client and family; monitor and document status.

6. Identify and assist client and family in casework process for services through the Red Cross and/or other agencies/organizations.

7. Maintain accurate client/family service statistics and generate reports in accordance with Chapter and National Headquarters standards.

8. Identify, develop and maintain key relationships with external partners to promote Red Cross services and programs.

9. Serve as technical subject matter expert (SME) to internal and external constituents.

10.Ensures Red Cross services are available to diverse communities.

11.May lead volunteers, coach interns and assign casework assignments.

12.Recruits, trains and works with volunteers and? treats all clients, volunteers, guests, and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner at all times while maintaining a cooperative atmosphere for everyone.?

13.Carries out any additional assignments required to fulfill the Mission of the American Red Cross.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or related field is desirable; other combinations of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background are also welcome to apply.

Experience: 1-3 years of experience in social services, casework, housing, or related environment. Working knowledge of housing and community resources in Philadelphia area and/or experience working in a shelter environment is desirable. Enthusiasm for supervising and working alongside volunteers is required. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable but not required. Experience working directly with trauma, loss of housing, or emergency environments is a strong asset. Passion for being an empathetic ear and advocate for vulnerable individuals affected by disasters is required.

Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, in diverse teams, and high-stress situations. Highly organized and able to handle and prioritize multiple tasks. ?Consistent ability to accurately assess client needs and provide services equitably and consistently and within scope of services. Exhibits sound and accurate judgment, skill in conflict resolution, and 'getting to yes'. Acts in accordance with Red Cross values and mission at all times.

Other: Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. ?Experience in Salesforce is an asset but not required. Must have reliable transportation, be willing and able to travel within the area as needed for meetings or events, and exhibit punctuality, consistency, and professionalism at all times.
