Job Description
General Motors is in the midst of a great transformation and is looking for individuals who can help it excel in its pursuit of a world of zero emissions, zero accidents and zero congestion. This role calls for an exceptional legal collaborator who has excellent legal and business acumen, exemplary judgment, personal integrity and experience in starting new businesses or incubating new businesses in a larger corporate context. This role supports GM?s growth initiatives in its efforts to unlock its vision of an all-electric future. ?The ideal candidate will have business savvy and strategic vision, as well as experience with sophisticated transactions and in advising early technology companies. ?Proven experience managing and developing a high-performing multi-faceted team is required along with a track record of successfully partnering with cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who has been successful in nimble, fast-paced environments, and who brings strong problem-solving skills along with the ability to manage details on a number of fronts simultaneously.
The Lead Counsel will have responsibility to manage multiple projects and emerging businesses simultaneously and work effectively across internal functions and businesses. Specific responsibilities include?
?Developing a thorough understanding of and familiarity with GM?s businesses, products, future goals, and the regulatory schemes under which it operates.
?Providing counsel to technical and business stakeholders who are leading GM?s development of new technology products and services, including personal aerial mobility.
?Managing a multi-faceted team of four attorneys.
?Structuring, negotiating, reviewing, and drafting a variety of agreements for internal and external corporate transactions.
?Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Corporate Finance and Global Innovation and coordinating with other Legal Staff colleagues around the world. ?Managing outside counsel and local counsel in a variety of jurisdictions around the globe. ?
?Supporting other Legal Staff members in complex commercial contracting and general corporate matters, on a project management basis, creating an ?engaged? team culture.
Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications and Skills:
?Law degree from an accredited law school with excellent academics and membership in good standing in at least one state bar; graduation from nationally recognized law schools a strong plus
?Active license to practice law in Michigan or at least one other US jurisdiction, and (if not admitted in Michigan) the ability to qualify for in-house practice in Michigan
?Candidates must possess at least 15 years of legal practice in sophisticated transactional work?
?Significant experience helping start-ups or incubating new businesses, negotiating large scale complex commercial agreements, including mergers and acquisitions, joint venture, supply, distribution, manufacturing, technology transfer and co-development agreements is required?
?Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse and creative team in a fast-paced environment
?Significant experience advising a large portfolio of transactions in an effective manner is required
?Candidates must have a self-starter personality, be a quick learner with strong internal motivation, and be possessed of initiative, integrity, and resilience ?
?Strong communication (written and oral) skills are required as are critical and analytical thinking
?Willingness and ability to travel, internationally as necessary, is required?
