Pfizer-Boulder, CO (formerly Array BioPharma) is focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of targeted small molecule drugs to treat patients afflicted with cancer. The individual will contribute to preclinical drug discovery programs from target selection candidate identification and characterization. They will leverage their expertise in oncology cell biology to identify new targets that align with the site strategy, develop assays to support drug discovery programs, guide programs, and oversee the design and execution of compound mechanism-of-action studies.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Identifies strategic and tactical challenges for each of the drug discovery programs that they support, and identify experiments to address these challenges
Design and oversee studies to characterize the biological consequences of a given mechanism of action to enable generation of a robust clinical development plan to identify relevant cancer types, target patient population, potential combination strategies and mechanisms of resistance
Directly supervise and mentor 2-3 scientists supporting multiple discovery programs
Maintain state-of-the-art technical knowledge
Monitor all relevant literature with respect to potential and current targets
Contribute to written and oral presentations
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in biological sciences, minimum 6-7 years’ industry experience with a focus in oncology and kinases
Strong familiarity with small molecule drug discovery from lead identification to candidate nomination
Significant experience supervising, mentoring and developing the careers of scientists of all experience levels
Strong leader who understands their roles and responsibilities and works to empower their direct reports and project team members to contribute to the overall success of the efforts they support
Highly refined oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate key concepts to all levels of the organization as well as externally
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of independence to effectively address both strategic and tactical challenges, leveraging their solid understanding of cell biology and kinase oncology
Recognized company-wide as a subject matter and/or technical expert in one or more areas
