Job Description
The ACL Controller supports the review and refinement of all Executive, Oversight, and Business Line communications related to credit reserve calculations and allocations to ensure information is consistent, timely, and concise. The position ensures coordination of activities and analysis of two analytical teams within the Credit Allowance Team to support and present reserve recommendations to executive management. The position will have a small team of direct reports.
Responsibilities:
Consistent with the consolidation and coordination of the total Allowance for Credit Losses, this individual is responsible for leading the team to:
- Develop, document and communicate a governance calendar
- Document and evaluate peer and benchmark metrics
- Manage credit policies associated with the allowance governance
- Manage allowance methodology documents including the Reasonable and Supportable Framework and the Qualitative Reserve methodology
- Develop executive committee presentations for key governance and communication of allowance risk coverage, methodology and estimates throughout the quarter
- Finalize estimate, governance minutes and documentation for external reviewers including attribution analysis
- Coordinate quarterly general ledger journal entries and accounting allocations
- Coordinate and consolidate forecasts including CCAR consolidation, Challenge and Submission
- Working with Finance, review and document financial and regulatory disclosures
- Coordinate provision expense estimates for strategic plans and capex proposals
- Working with Regulatory Relations, manage exams (regulatory and audit) and monitor findings remediation as applicable
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in relevant field (Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Statistics)
- 15 or more years of experience in an applicable risk management environment
- Creative problem solver with the ability to develop processes and systems using conceptualizing, reasoning, and interpretation skills. Solutions require a thorough understanding of issues affecting credit performance and credit model limitations
- Strong communication, organization, and presentation skills, including PowerPoint
- Analytical Abilities / Financial Acumen Systematic application of a combination of inductive and deductive reasoning to examine information, interpret results, and arrive at well-founded logical conclusions
- Advanced Microsoft Program Usage (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint)
- Significant experience in credit analysis, accounting, and/or financial reporting and projections
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Certified Public Accountant with history of effective process design, strong control execution and transparent and effective documentation / communication
- Working knowledge of data querying languages and analytical software, such as SAS or SQL
- Solid understanding of statistical concepts.
- Strong leadership and management skills of processes, projects and people
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills
- Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications
