Responsibilities

Palmdale Regional Medical Center serves the region by providing high quality medical services to residents of the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding communities. With the recent addition of the Rehabilitation Institute, the hospital features 184 licensed acute care beds as well as inpatient and outpatient surgery, cardiac services featuring a STEMI Receiving Center (heart attack) and a 35-bed 24-hour emergency department. The Center for Wound Care provides treatment for people with chronic non-healing wounds. This comprehensive wound-healing service includes hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Palmdale Regional Medical Center is active in the community and regularly participates with the Antelope Valley Board of Trade, Greater Antelope Valley Economic Alliance, Chambers of Commerce and other civic and governmental groups. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

The Cook provides food and nutritional care appropriate for all ages including infant, toddlers, pre-school, school age, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients as prescribed by physicians and under the direct supervision of the dietitian for age appropriate food items. Demonstrates knowledge in preparing food and meals for patients, cafeteria, and special function events. Ability to follow instruction and recipes to complete satisfactory meals based on patient diet orders and modified diet needs using sanitary guidelines. Consistently prepares and serves food in a timely, organized, and attractive manner. Understands modified diet restrictive nutrient parameters and follows menu selections to ensure food products, out-dated food products or any food item is received in poor condition and immediately removes from service. Effectively follows production tallies and adheres to correct serving portions. Demonstrates the ability to properly use cooking and production equipment and utensils, including proper cleaning and sanitizing after each use. Demonstrates high quality, aesthetically pleasing, and taste appealing meals.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

Demonstrates critical thinking skills while maintaining hospital service excellence standards on a consistent basis.
Ability to operate, clean and sanitize food service equipment pertinent to job tasks.
Ability to operate, navigate and utilize computer hardware and software systems accordingly

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

One year experience as a cook or prep cook in an institutional food service facility

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

High school or equivalent

REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Maintains certification in Food Service Sanitation by the Department of Health and/or ServSafe certification
