Job Summary:
The State Tax Senior is primarily responsible for preparing returns, extensions and estimated payments within the state income tax compliance area and assisting in analyzing transactions for their tax consequences on a state basis.
Job Roles:
Preparing and filing complete and accurate state income tax returns and workpapers
Preparing state quarterly tax estimates and extensions and coordinating the making of tax payments
Assisting with quarterly and year-end state income tax provisions by i) analyzing and reconciling the state income tax payable accounts and ii) computing the state return-to-provision adjustments and other state true-up adjustments
Maintaining the state NOL carryforwards by company and / or by state as needed
Analyzing potential and completed transactions for their tax consequences on a state by state basis
Contributing to the continuation of and improvement of the state tax processes
Generating reports and navigating through Lawson
Assisting with state income tax audits
Responding to notices and other correspondence from state taxing authorities
Researching state tax issues as they arise
Staying technically current by monitoring proposed and enacted tax legislation
Assisting with special projects
Qualifications
Role Specific Knowledge:
Must have hands-on knowledge of i) state income tax compliance - both on a combined / unitary and separate company basis, ii) Thomson Reuters' One Source Income Tax Compliance software, and iii) Microsoft Excel (i.e., lookup tables, formulas, pivot tables, etc.)
Must have strong analytical and technical skills and be detail oriented
Must have strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
Ability to work with members of the Tax and Accounting departments in the gathering and disbursement of information, as needed
Education, Licensure, and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or similar field of study
Minimum of 5 years in state income tax compliance, which includes experience in preparing combined / unitary state income tax returns
CPA preferred, not required
