Primary Purpose:

This position in Sempra Energy&x27;s corporate tax group will support all areas of income taxation, including tax provision, compliance, planning, regulatory, and audit. In general, a Senior Tax Analyst will: &x28;1&x29; review the work of junior tax staff, &x28;2&x29; ensure completion of tax filing requirements and financial statement tax disclosures for Sempra Energy&x27;s regulated and unregulated businesses, &x28;3&x29; analyze and quantify any tax impact from current tax law and proposed tax legislation, &x28;4&x29; respond to or direct staff to respond to tax and&x2f;or financial statement audits, &x28;5&x29; research tax positions under the direction and guidance of senior tax members, &x28;6&x29; identify favorable or simplified alternative reporting positions, and &x28;7&x29; develop tax planning opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Focus will primarily be on aspects of both tax accounting and tax compliance for assigned business unit and entities. Responsibilities are as follows:
* Ensure the completion of monthly, quarterly and year-end tax accounting &x28;ASC 740&x29;, including financial statement and regulatory tax disclosures. * Lead the effort to manage the tax requirements for financial forecasting and strategic planning. * Ensure the completion of federal, state, local income and franchise tax returns, and quarterly estimated tax payments. * Coordinate and review responses to audit inquiries from taxing authorities, and internal and external auditors. * Monitor existing and emerging tax laws, legislation and rulings, GAAP, and SEC regulations. * Research, analyze, quantify, and effectively communicate tax accounting treatment for the tax provision and planning strategies and&x2f;or proper tax return reporting positions. * Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the industry and the business. * Develop and maintain professional business relationships with colleagues in tax and business units. * Continuously seek to improve tax processes, identifying and making suggestions for ways to work more productively and efficiently using technology automation. * Perform other duties as assigned.
