Mechanical Inspector

We have an opportunity at our Martinez Refinery in California and are seeking a talented Mechanical Inspector to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy.
The Mechanical Equipment Inspector role is to provide technical/maintenance support to operations, maintenance, turnaround, projects and engineering for mechanical equipment. The Mechanical Equipment Inspector will work to improve equipment reliability and reduce maintenance cost via investigation of failures, determination of root causes and completion of corrective actions. Machinery includes pumps, compressors, motors, turbines, blowers, fan, miscellaneous mechanical equipment (SPMs), etc
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibility of the Machinery Inspector is to improve machinery reliability and reduce maintenance cost. Machinery includes pumps, compressors, turbines, miscellaneous mechanical equipment (SPMs), motors and items identified for mechanical inspector in C(F)-23 (Orphaned Equipment).
Operations Support: First point of contact for Operations when technical questions or issues with machinery arise (including off-hours). Assist in revising critical equipment procedures.
Equipment Surveillance: Assist with identifying the appropriate checks. Conduct weekly (minimum) unit walk-through. Check relevant equipment pressures, temperatures, leaks, vibration, noise, lube oil (levels, condition, flow), performance, etc. Those items that may need immediate attention should be brought to Operations for correction. Assist Operations in understanding the operation of their equipment so that they can observe these items daily.
Equipment Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot machinery problems to understand probable cause of failure and notify operating team of actions to prevent reoccurrence. Generate repair notification containing description of issue and proposed solution or improvement to address the issue.
Equipment Repair: First point of contact for crafts for technical expertise and training on critical equipment repair. Need to maintain a collaborative relationship with the Maintenance Planner, Maintenance Team Leader, and Crafts. Assist in commissioning activities after repair.
Reliability Improvement: Review monthly MTBM data, conduct failure analysis, propose solutions. Follow equipment failures on the Bad Actor list, define problem, determine root cause, and work with Engineer to recommend changes.
Documentation: Maintain equipment history, Bad Actor list, document Overhaul Reports, and maintain equipment folders.
Planning: Maintain knowledge of equipment status within the assigned unit. Develop, review, and audit preventative maintenance workscopes, timing, and materials.
Turnaround Support: lead and/or assist in workscope development, specify and inspect needed parts, develop QA/QC plan. Serves as a mechanical coordinator on special mechanical equipment jobs during maintenance outages and/or projects as required.
Training: Provide operation and maintenance training on basic equipment knowledge to help better understand equipment operation and how it operates.
Special Challenges:
During occasional high maintenance events (TA, Project Execution, Overhauls) successful candidate may be required to work altered schedule over an extend period.

Additional Comments:
* Development: Increase knowledge of mechanical equipment.
* Develop knowledge of and utilize software systems including Visio, Word, Excel, Outlook, SAP, Raddical View, SKF Vibration, DM2K, KMS, etc.
* Audit jobs (witness inspections at off site shops, etc.) to ensure compliance. Audit repair reports from vendors.
* Manage quotes from Vendors, assist Engineer writing Technical Requirements, issue to Procurement or Area Planner for purchase.
* Understand and follow Martinez Refining Company Procedures and MOC process.
* Read appropriate literature: API, Martinez Refining Company Engineering guidelines, Martinez Refining Company Machinery Bulletins & Procedures, etc.
* Fulfill assignment as Mechanical Staff Support duty person during off-hours.
* Attend relevant courses: Vibration Level I, Schenck Balancing, SKF Bearings, Martinez Refining Company Alignment, Elliott Turbine, Dresser Recip, Dresser Centrifugal, Martinez Refining Company General Refining, etc.
* Assist in establishing and implementing Yearly Goals for the Mechanical Group.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Machinist/Millwright level experience
* Minimum 8 - years of refinery or petrochemical mechanical equipment experience
* Minimum 1 - year of machinery inspection experience in a refinery or petrochemical plant
* Condition Monitoring experience (i.e. data analysis, vibration analysis, reciprocating compressor analysis, lube oil analysis, etc.).
* Proven ability to perform troubleshooting and performance testing on various types of rotating equipment.
* Candidate shall be proficient in Microsoft Office software
* The Inspector shall have a working knowledge of refinery equipment, i.e.ANSI / API pumps, Mechanical seals & Seal Flush Plans, & Centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, gearbox, Steam Turbines.
* SAP software experience preferred.
* Working knowledge of machinery repair standards, preferred.
* Vibration Level 1 certification, preferred.
