Job Description
The New York Times Magazine is seeking a news assistant to support its photo department. This role includes a wide range of administrative duties, from billing to archiving. The ideal candidate is someone who is very detail oriented, has a strong interest in implementing systems and workflows, and enjoys working in a collaborative, fast paced environment.
Some responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Submitting, processing and tracking all invoices
* Facilitating the sending and receiving of secure documents
* Preparing and uploading photographs to internal CMS and syndicate
* Overseeing and maintaining a cloud storage archive of photography as well as an extensive physical archive of magazines
* Organizing, preparing and submitting entries to photo contests each year, such as World Press, The Emmys, PDN, and American Photography
* Sending out weekly magazine issues to photographers and contributors
* Providing a wide range of operational support and assistance with special projects as they arise
* Working with photo editors to put together presentations for lectures, ad sales meetings, exhibitions and promotional events
* Creating, organizing, and distributing PDFs of layouts
* Ordering and maintaining supplies
* Scheduling and booking conference rooms for meetings
* Assisting photo editors with shoot production when needed
* Arranging for liability and property insurance for photo shoots
* Arranging travel for the Director of Photography when needed
* Filing expenses for the Director of Photography and track expenses for the department
Requirements:
* Bachelors Degree
* Experience with electronic image handling
* Knowledge of digital tools and image handling software, including Photoshop and PhotoMechanic
* Excellent organizational skills
* Ability to problem solve and multi-task
* Strong interpersonal skills, professional communication skills, and writing skills
* Enthusiasm and/or experience in photography and journalism
* Must be willing to work in New York, NY
