Job Description:
The opportunity to work in teams like our WSJ storytelling group, whose mission is to create new, engaging ways for audiences to experience the Journals content. The team will amplify and partner in our journalism, driving toward our goals of increasing reach and engagement, and push the boundaries of how we tell stories. When it comes to our article pages, Storytelling will focus on the elements that involve content (e.g. headline, body, featured multimedia, related links) and our partners in Audience Touchpoints will continue managing other aspects of the front-end templates (e.g. advertising, site navigation, subscription integration, video player).
This new team rounds out the Content Experiences group, which also includes Newsroom Tools, CMS and Innovation. The four teams will be working together and across the organization to serve our audiences and our newsroom, building useful and innovative products and tools.
About the role:
The internship position will include working on new and existing capabilities, including our content management system, our content API and our web and mobile rendering platforms.
Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
* Explore editorial workflows and our publishing pipeline.
* Collaborate with editors, product owners, engineers and designers on building new features.
* Contribute code, tests and ideas to the storytelling component library and rendering platform.
* Research digital storytelling experiences & opportunities.
Knowledge/Experience Preferred:
* Working knowledge of HTML, Javascript (web components/React/Svelte/NodeJS) & CSS
* Good understanding of UX and accessibility.
* Git version control & test suites
* Experience with audio, video, data viz, game design or AR/VR.
* Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Illustrator or Photoshop
* iOS knowledge - nice to have but not required.
