Job Description

The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (MDL) is a certified (by CAP and CLIA) and internationally recognized clinical diagnostic facility (located in the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Building for Personalized Cancer Care (6565 MD Anderson Blvd, Houston, Texas 77030). It was established in 1990 and specializes in clinical molecular testing of tumor samples from various cancer types. Here, we provide a full roster of cutting-edge molecular testing for hematologic and solid organ tumors, which is very critical for management and treatment of these cancers. Our laboratory analyzes samples primarily from patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) as well as serves as a referral laboratory for other hospitals and clinics.

The mission of MDL is to provide clinical molecular biomarker testing that is best suited for cancer care at MD Anderson Cancer Center on 100% of clinically justified requests in time with 100% accuracy. In addition to supporting clinical care, MDL is also involved in clinical trials and education.

Our goal is to establish and maintain a leadership position in clinical molecular diagnostics by translating new scientific discoveries into clinical practice through a combination of technology, talent and teamwork. MDL has established the following goals in line with the MDACC mission:

MDL offers a wide variety of state-of-the-art clinical molecular assays for cancer diagnosis, treatment selection, prognostication and disease monitoring across all tumor types. While the initial test offering were focused on hematolymphoid malignancies, we have dramatically expanded the solid organ tumor testing in the recent years to support recent expansion in molecular test utilization in solid tumors. Taking advantage of automated, high through-put instrumentation, our lab is able to accommodate a large volume of highly complex tests and generate highest quality results with a rapid turn-around time to facilitate timely patient care decisions.
