Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM Research is seeking an Application Architect to work at its Research Center in Almaden, CA.

As a an Application Architect, you will be developing, and as an Architecture team, owning the end-to-end technical solution of the overall Cloud Development, Migration & Modernization efforts.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Simplifies the solution approach by adopting a continuous modernization method
* Promotes innovation across the solution and delivery phases by applying co-creation practices and leveraging agile methodologies
* Contribute to the creation, review, and documentation of implementation decisions for guiding how the offering is realized, encompassing security, computational performance, data storage, availability/resiliency
* Continue consistent development of the technical roadmap to remain ahead of the market.
* Analyze operational requirements in the informatics layer (such as data storage and movement, resource provisioning, and job dispatch and monitoring) and assess how to meet them at low cost while meeting requirements of security and compliance
* Assess recent and upcoming capability releases from the IBM Cloud and employed cloud services for how they can be leveraged in the offering
* Work closely with the rest of the engineering team to implement and iterate architecture decisions, including:
* An enterprise-wide information security plan to ensure security of all company assets and data
* An efficient and agile end-to-end application infrastructure, with best practices in software delivery
* A consistent and repeatable process for quality assurance across all areas of organization and product build

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related area is required.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

* 5 years experience in architecture or development lead role with the following:
* Experience in designing and deploying data-intensive capabilities in the Cloud
* Ability to assess recent and upcoming capability releases for the IBM Cloud for how they can be leveraged in the offering
* Knowledge of security and privacy engineering and encryption techniques for ensuring all internal processes and external services comply with security and privacy regulations
* Working understanding of Kubernetes in a cloud application CI/CD environment
* Experience and current knowledge of public clouds, especially capabilities for dynamic provisioning and job orchestration
* Knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of leading cloud vendors
* Understanding of building in continuous quality assurance

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

* Experience working with big data and analytics preferably with bioinformatics or High Performance Computing
* IBM Cloud experience
* Demonstrated communication skills
