Scope of Position:
* The focus of this position is on the design and development of robust, first/next generation process machine systems and products that provide significant competitive advantage to Cornings businesses, and / or enable new products and product lines. This position will support some or all of Corning Incorporateds divisions.
Required Education, Years and Area of Experience:
* B.S./M.S. in Technical Discipline
* 10+ years in a technical field to include:
* Mechanical Design of products and/or machines
* Vendor interaction for the fabrication of parts, assemblies, or large integrated systems
* Project or Engineering Management
* Technology or Product Transfer to manufacturing or other organizations
Required Skills:
* Experience in successful development and delivery of new products or fully integrated, first/next generation process machine systems through early stages of innovation and into manufacturing.
* Strong interest and skills in mechanical design, with broad knowledge of materials, fabrication methods (machining, forming, molding etc.) assembly and joining methods, GD&T, tolerance stack ups/error budgets.
* Excellent understanding and recall of engineering fundamentals, and the ability to deploy those fundamentals into successful designs. Ability to propose solutions and/or invents, applies, develops, or extends a state-of-the-art technology.
* Experience with 3D CAD modeling (Solid Works preferred), and use of simulation modules to optimize designs and/or demonstrate feasibility (finite element, computational fluid dynamics etc.)
* Ability to work effectively in highly ambiguous situations.
* Understand how to integrate commercially available technologies and processes such as robotics, material addition and removal, dispensing, and automation equipment into robust process manufacturing solutions.
* Able to effectively leverage external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build, and integration of later stages of machine system implementation.
* Demonstrated project management experience with ability to achieve results through a highly matrixed project team, champion new ideas; lead by example; provide constructive feedback to co-workers.
* Ability to apply decision making and problem solving skills to review facts and weigh options using a systematic approach to solve problems.
* Influences peers, team(s), and management, and provides technical guidance. Creates objectives and uses creative approaches to support projects or create project opportunities.
