Position Opportunity:
As the Distribution Center (DC) Superintendent of Logistics you report directly to the Distribution General manager with dotted line responsibility to the transportation manager. You will be responsible for the following but not limited to.
* Forecast and manage all aspects of inbound freight activity
* Data Analytics -- volume, cost, frequency, and availability
* Daily, weekly, period, quarter, annual
* Provide procurement tools to negotiate p/u allowance requirements
* Working knowledge of EDI, One Network, I-Trade
* Review x-dock contracts to validate fleet is not financially supporting vendor activity
* Align backhaul p/u activity with retail delivery schedule to reduce out of route miles and increase backhaul revenue optimization
* Identify profitable vendor pick-ups in current delivery network to actively pursue
* Review and eliminate poor performing backhauls
* Review and update vendor allowances quarterly
* Identify opportunities to consolidate p/u opportunities
* Develop strong relationship with vendors to support quick turn arounds at vendor locations
* Hold vendors accountable for poor performance both shipping and product fill rates
* Establish drop trailer programs when profitable; establish drop yard in Inland Empire.
* Provide vendor non-compliance, backhaul revenue and transportation cost supporting documents to transportation manager and controller as needed
* Utilize for hire network to maximize profitability and Fleet utilization.
* Uber freight, DAT, 123Loadboard, Direct Freight, etc.
* Review 3rd party p/u and delivery performance daily for corporate traffic loads to improve warehouse service levels.
Job Requirements:
* Highly motivated self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external customers and direct team members
* Good negotiation and problem-solving skills
* Knowledge of produce, perishable, meat, and grocery products
* Understand produce seasonal flow on the West Coast
* Establish fleet activity in the central valley; stone fruit, citrus, nuts
* Knowledge of DOT Hours and Regulations
* Knowledge of MS Office applications
* Knowledge of procurement activity, WHSE systems and transportation operation maximizing fleet utilization.
* Responsible to understand data flow from order to receiving.
* Understand for hire network involving vendors, 3rd party carriers and fleet

* Communications: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to build direct relationships with all associates. Must have the ability to represent the Company's interests in negotiations with outside professionals and consultants.

* Financial Acumen: Understands financial/accounting principles and operational budgeting to develop and manage operating plans (P&L). Conduct financial analyses and review and analyze existing cost data.
* Team Development: Empower the workforce and build strong and diverse team through hiring, developing, evaluating, training, providing feedback and coaching, and succession planning. Proven ability to define performance measures directly related to business and hold people accountable for such.
* Strategic Thinking. Stays abreast of industry trends, promotions, and marketing programs to ensure efficient, effective operation of the Department. Seeks out opportunities for continual improvement across the operation and leverages data to make informed decisions.
* Customer Service. Excellent customer service focus with results orientation. Respond quickly to store, Operations and Vendor requests to meet and exceed their needs.
* Safety Orientation. Ensures all Corporate policies and procedures are adhered to and implement new policies as they are developed or changed. Promotes and maintains a safe working environment with a safety-first mindset.
* Technology. Computerized warehouse management, transportation management systems, procurement systems, and Microsoft Office. Leverages and stays abreast of best practices to drive innovation within the DC as share with the broader Supply Chain team.
Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, or Business preferred and/or 5-year combination of the following.
* Some college courses including Transportation, Business, Logistics, or comparable industry experience preferred
* 5+ years transportation experience
* 5+ or more years' experience Grocery and/or Retail Distribution Center, Third Party Logistics Provider, Freight Services
Physical Environment:
* Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment.
* Incumbent may use phones, computers and other office equipment during normal workday.
* Position may require some travel, including occasional weekend travel (less than 5%).

In 1939, Joe Albertson, a former Safeway district manager, took $5,000 he saved and $7,500 he borrowed from his wife’s Aunt Bertie, and partnered with L.S. Skaggs to open his first Albertsons store on 16th and State Streets in Boise, Idaho. Joe was innovative, too. He had one of the first in-store magazine racks in the country along with a scratch bakery and fresh ice cream made in-store. He worked hard, seven days a week, on his vision to build his company, and through his inspiring work ethic and tireless
determination to run the best store, the first store thrived. Just two years later, he had opened two other stores in neighboring communities and grew the fledgling company’s sales to over $1 million by the end of 1941.
