Position Purpose: To provide courteous customer service and assist the Pharmacist on duty in maintaining the clean and orderly appearance of the pharmacy area, prioritizing work, and processing prescription orders in compliance with Federal and State laws and company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

* Champions Company and Division customer service programs to meet or exceed Division customer service goals. Handles customer relations in a positive manner, including effective resolution of customer complaints. Promotes Albertson's philosophy of personalized service in the pharmacy.

* Answers the phone and refers phone requests from physicians, patients, and others which require a pharmacist's knowledge, to the pharmacists.

* Accepts the written prescription or refill information from patients; confirms completeness of patient record and requests missing information as appropriate, and retrieves the patient's pharmacy record(s) for verification by the pharmacists. Obtains patient allergy information. Communicates with physicians to obtain prescription and refill authorizations.

* Applies basic prescription reading skills to the written prescription upon data entry. Basic prescription reading skills include: dosage form differentiation, directions, pharmacy calculations and product recognition.

* Accesses the pharmacy computer to obtain complete patient record (on both cash and third party prescriptions) and verifies third party parameters.

* Inputs, accesses, processes, and retrieves data from the pharmacy computer, including speed codes and drug interaction data, as state laws permit.

* Where allowed by law, informs the patient of the availability of generic alternative products.

* Processes prescriptions to the point of generating a complete prescription label. Counts medication and fills prescriptions vials.

* Maintains proper organization of product in each bay and at each counter in regard to established company procedures.

* Replenishes pharmacy supply of vials, bottles, bags, and other supplies.

* Records product needed on "want list".

* Fills pharmacy product orders, to specific bay locations where state law allows.

* Operates patient sales register by processing individual patient purchases over the scanner or utilizing a scan gun; accurately reads and records prices for items which will not scan.

* Totals patient orders; collects cash, checks, credit cards, gift cards and certificates, and coupons from patients; and enters amount and type of payment in accordance with established Company policies and procedures.

* Bags all products and affixes the receipt to the bag and places Company stickers on items, which are not in bags.

* Returns returned non-pharmacy merchandise to its proper locations.

* In areas outside of the pharmacy, keeps the merchandise clean, stocked and properly displayed.

* Prevents the sale of out of code product.

* Maintains the clean appearance and security of the pharmacy.

* Maintains and safeguards confidentiality concerning associates, patients and Company information.

* Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity. Treats customers, associates, third parties and vendors with courtesy, dignity and respect.

* Performs other duties as assigned by the pharmacist on duty or store management.

Skills and Physical Requirements:

* Requires good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain composure in dealing with associates, customers, agencies and third parties.

* Ability to frequently reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 30 lbs.

* Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.

* May utilize cleaning supplies, latex and chemicals.

* Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities. Requires knowledge of basic mathematics and pharmaceutical weights and measures.

* Must be able to learn department policies and procedures. Must be able to learn and understand pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information and proper drug handling and storage.

* Must operate equipment such as computers, scan guns, tablet counters and cash registers.

* Successfully completed and passed prescription processing proficiency exam.

* Complies with all Company policies including confidentiality, HIPAA compliance, attendance, grooming standards and dress codes.

Work Environment:

* Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment.

In 1939, Joe Albertson, a former Safeway district manager, took $5,000 he saved and $7,500 he borrowed from his wife’s Aunt Bertie, and partnered with L.S. Skaggs to open his first Albertsons store on 16th and State Streets in Boise, Idaho. determination to run the best store, the first store thrived. Just two years later, he had opened two other stores in neighboring communities and grew the fledgling company’s sales to over $1 million by the end of 1941.
