Job Description

Individual will perform manual and machine operator tasks related to the operation of bindery equipment in the Digital Print department including a stitcher, folder, cutter, scoring machine, UV coater, etc. Key job functions include: read and interpret job tickets; set up machine in accordance with job ticket instructions, coordinate and lead activities of handworkers to maintain productivity and quality; perform preventive maintenance; report and document defective equipment; inspect equipment for safety issues; monitor quality, output and productivity. Set up, adjust and operate a variety of auxiliary binding machines. Inspect equipment for safety issues. Monitor quality, output and productivity.



Required Skills

* With or without an accommodation must be able to lift and handle materials of 40+ lbs, while pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting and twisting; and must be able to stand continually with frequent bending, stooping and squatting.
* Requires ability to read and make mathematical computations as relates to bindery operations. Must have ability to visually inspect printed material as it comes off the equipment. Ability to distinguish between colors.
* Ability to work in a team environment, have excellent problem-solving ability, be reliable and have strong attention to detail.
* Ability to work all shifts and overtime as required based upon production demands.
* Individual must be capable of mastering the following job requirements: Working knowledge of the set up, adjustment, procedures, capabilities and limitations of equipment to perform the full range of standard and specialized folding, collating, and cutting of printed materials to complete a finished product. Familiarity with different paper weights, sizes, kinds and colors so as to be able to identify paper conditions (i.e. excessive moisture or curling that frequently requires additional machine adjustment). Familiarity with basic mathematics (i.e. decimals, metric units) to understand dimensional requirements contained in job orders and to make more complicated adjustments. Ability to use the full range of standard and specialized tools and devices to adjust and maintain the functional accuracy and operating conditions of the bindery machines. Skill in making adjustments to powered machines using hand-tools. Knowledge of operating procedures for bindery equipment such as folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines. Ability to read and interpret written work which indicates the number and sequence of machine operations required to complete the work and maintain dimensional accuracy in accordance with instructions provided

Required Experience

1+ year proven experience setting up, operating and trouble-shooting commercial bindery equipment.
