Northrop Grumman Tactical Space is looking for a Simulation Software Engineering Functional Manager for our Dulles, Virginia location to manage a department of simulation software engineers. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading the technical performance of an engineering team dedicated to developing Spacecraft Simulation Software solutions. The primary location for this position is Dulles, Virginia.
The Manager is expected to be familiar with modeling and simulation software. Candidates will plan, organize and be involved in the full software lifecycle to develop spacecraft simulation software using state-of-the-art tools and software best practices. Responsibilities include developing models to support modeling and simulation activities across numerous programs. The ideal candidate will have expertise in C++ programming, be knowledgeable on the development and use of simulation models of sensors, actuators and space environments to demonstrate closed-loop spacecraft system performance and general integration and test of aerospace systems.
Management responsibilities include providing technical and strategic direction, coordination of assignments, hiring of new staff, and networking with Program Office and key stakeholders to identify opportunities and issues where the department needs to prioritize resources to address business demands. Additionally, the Manager will pursue research and development efforts to improve the organization rsquo;s products, tools and processes. Functional management responsibilities are expected to be about 10% of this Manager 39;s time, with the remaining time focused on the technical aspects of the position.
The selected candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills and will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Manager will operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish team and department goals.
Specific management responsibilities include:
* Hire to meet growing demands and back-fill positions as required through recruiting and retention
* Training, mentoring and coaching of both technical and non-technical skills, career guidance and goal-setting
* Managing compensation evaluations and coordination through our Performance Management process
* Workload planning/forecasting as well as new business development
* Develop advanced techniques for solving guidance and navigation problems
* Interact internally with engineering team and/or with suppliers, vendors or customers for basic problem resolution
Specific technical responsibilities include:
* Manage and analyze requirements and designs; participate in software requirements review, preliminary and critical design reviews, integration readiness reviews and software acceptance reviews
* Develop, test and debug simulation models, applications and test scripts in desktop computing environments
* Make frequent contact with customers both internal and external concerning design, development and maintenance of space application software
* Work directly with integration and test and other engineering disciplines to resolve complex spacecraft system problems
* Use EVMS to track the status of the development of a project through its software development lifecycle
Qualification
Basic Qualifications:
* BS Degree in the STEM field is required in addition to a minimum of 5 years of professional experience (less with a MS or PhD)
* Experience working within a software development environment related to modeling and simulation
* Significant experience working with C++, Python and Matlab/Simulink that demonstrates proficiency and expertise
* Technical project or people leadership experience with specific demonstrated success in leading and developing cross functional teams
* US Citizenship is required for this position as well as the ability to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
* System knowledge in one or more of the following domains: Spacecraft Command amp; Control, Mission Planning, Space Situational Awareness and Visualization
* Experience working with 3D graphics software such as OpenGL or OpenSceneGraph plus modeling tools such as Blender
* Agile Certification (PMI-ACP or AgilePM)
* Experience usage and configuration of DevOps/CI/CD technologies (Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, etc)
* An active TS/SCI Clearance
