Minimum Education

Graduate of school of nursing and hold current licensure as a licensed practical nurse with the Virginia State Board of Nursing.

Required Licenses

Current LPN license required

BLS required

ACLS & PALS required within one year of employment

Required Skills

One year of clinical nursing experience in critical care area and/or in Med/Surg nursing is preferred.

Must satisfactorily complete orientation; exhibit basic interpersonal skills, and must be able to fulfill physical requirements of the position.

Communicates effectively verbally and in written form.

Ability to understand theory and practice in nursing.

Maintains harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and other hospital departments.

Ability to problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner.

Ability to discern legal implications in nursing.

Ability to monitor telemetry.

Unit Secretarial duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

Performs functions of a licensed practical nurse by possessing the knowledge as delegated by the RN or LIP.

Coordinates assignments in a manner to ensure that patient needs are provided in an efficient manner.

Provide excellent customer service including patient education.

Professionalism applies knowledge to practice through participation in performance improvement activities.

Pursues ongoing continuing education to remain current in practice.

Demonstrates flexibility in response to new and improved work processes.

Possess the knowledge to safely apply theory and practice when providing patient care.

Complies with regulatory requirements and Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

Productivity ensures completion of assigned workloads and moves to unassigned work at own initiative.

Documentation is reflective of care provided to ensure accurate charges are placed.

Consistently communicates to co-workers, medical staff, ancillary departments and customers to promote a collaborative and cooperative environment.

Completes/attends all required in-services and unit staff meetings.

Effectively follows leaders direction to meet patient/family learning needs.

Ability to problem-solve effectively to provide quality patient care.

Ability to work with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.

Competently works with Paragon applications (computer system).Possess the knowledge to use PYXIS medication delivery system.

Functional Demands

Standing, sitting, walking, bending (45-90 degree angles) are required.

May require stair climbing.

Speech, hearing, and visual acuity necessary in order to perform job requirements.

Exposure to blood, body fluids and hazardous waste is moderate to frequent and must carry out universal precautions according to policy.

May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed customers, to customers with communicable diseases, and/or potentially dangerous equipment.

Must be able to read and write to fulfill job description.

May be exposed to bad weather if necessary to escort a customer from or to a vehicle
