Position Summary: Tool and Fixture Design Engineer

As a member of the Manufacturing Engineering Team at DESTACO, fellow Manufacturing Engineers will call upon you to provide fixture requirements and design. Working cross-functionally with engineering groups and production teams across the company, you will use your creativity to bring concepts to fruition. The successful candidate will be responsible for aspects of custom fixture design and development. This person will be enthusiastic, flexible, and eager to solve technical challenges.

What Success Looks Like

* * You will team up with our new Tool room manufacturing team to pioneer processes for engineering complex parts through the CNC machines
* You will play a pivotal role in growing the team to take on more projects to improve productivity and eliminate quality issues.
* You will use your design expertise to create tool and fixture projects, both complex and some simple.
* You will use your excellent people skills to guide fellow engineers and operators in offering full designs and partnering with them in solving technical challenges.
* You will communicate effectively to provide fellow engineers and operators with guidance with their design concepts and direct them in the steps to finalize their creations.
* You will work as part of a close-knit and cohesive team to deliver outstanding creations.

The Tool and Fixture Design Engineer reports to Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor and is located in Wheeling IL location.

Key Job Responsibilities included but not limited to:

* Design and/or modify machine fixtures and equipment used for production of the Destacos products.
* Incorporate standard purchased tooling components as needed into the tool/ fixture designs.
* Check tool and fixture designs by validating their accuracy and function.
* Create and maintain detailed component and assembly models to support fabrication of tools and fixtures.
* Manage tool design workload and prioritize accordingly.
* Interact with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize tool designs for manufacturing quality and costs.
* Interact, as needed, with tool makers and vendor machine shops.
* Evaluate existing designs so new designs are continually improved and enhanced.
* Must be able to read blueprints, understand GD&T.
* Must be familiar with CNC Lathes and Mills.
* Experience with metallurgical design requirements.
* Experience in the start-up, and scale-up of new product introductions.
* Must have a general knowledge of CNC machining capabilities.

Job Requirements:

Experience:

* 2 5 years experience with tooling and fixture design
* 2 5 years experience in machining and manufacturing (tools and fixturing, CNC, etc.) required
* 1 -2 years experience in CAD and solid modeling requires (Solid works experience preferred)
* A solid foundation in machining and manufacturing (tools and fixturing, CNC, etc.) preferred
* Experience with machine shop practices preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* With minimal supervision, demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems, interpret, resolving problems and issues using a variety of instructions or guides furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
* Fluent in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
* Knowledge and experience using micrometers, depth micrometers, inside diameter gauge, and outside diameter gauge.
* The ability to communicate complex issues in a clear, compelling manner, both orally and in writing required
* Reasoning Ability
* Understand engineering blueprints (Casting, Forging, Machining)
* Working knowledge of estimating machining time, understand machining methods (for all metal types),
* Knowledge of tooling and fixturing, working knowledge of equipment and its capabilities, independent working, and decision-making skills.

Education and Certification Qualifications:

* Associates degree in Design or Engineering from a two-year technical school or college
* BS degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Materials Engineering, or a related discipline preferred
* Mastercam certification a big plus
* Solidworks certification and experience big plus
* Inventor experience preferred (not required)

Travel Requirements:

* Up to 10% travel mainly for training purposes
