Collins Aerospace in West Des Moines is looking for a motivated engineering co-op to help with upcoming advanced manufacturing automation and technology projects. The selected individual will work with a team of engineers to move current projects forward, as well as aid in researching, evaluating, comparing, and testing new opportunities for improving the shop floor quality and productivityincluding some Smart Factory systems. The co-op may also be tasked with helping design and implement more-modern tools on legacy testing equipment.
In this position, the engineer may potentially work with vision systems, 3-D printers, robots, sensors, controllers, data acquisition equipment, and other technologies depending on the need.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Work with a team of engineers to support:
* Planning and implementation of current automation capital projects
* Researching, evaluating, comparing, and testing new technologies to improve shop floor quality and productivity
* Implementation of Smart Factory initiatives
* Projects related to adding digital data acquisition and automation to legacy test equipment
* Evaluation and implementation of databases, SPC, and other data-management and processing systems
Basic Qualifications:
* Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
* Must be a U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualifications:
* Be pursuing a bachelors or masters degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, systems or manufacturing engineering from an accredited university
* Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
* Have completed 30 hours of college coursework
* Any of the certifications below would be highly desired, but not strictly required: Robotic certifications (ABB, Fanuc, etc.), LabVIEW certification, PLC Certifications
* Solid foundation of engineering principles
* Microsoft Office proficiency
* Confidence in giving presentations
* Experience using SolidWorks
* Coding experience (LabVIEW, MatLab, Ladder Logic)
* Experience with data acquisition equipment and controllers (cDAQ, PLC)
* Proficiency with handling and analyzing test data
* Experience with databases, preferably SQL
* Experience with designing tests and verifying measurement systems and gage R&R;
* Previous work with vision systems a plus
