Are you a passionate technology enthusiast looking to join an industry-leading Technology Department to help deliver the technical backbone of a global logistics company? If so, Union Pacific is looking to hire you as a Site Reliability Engineer in our Systems Engineering organization.

This position is based in Omaha, Nebraska and candidates must be willing to work in Omaha or one of our other office locations, including Louisville, Colorado, or Norristown, Pennsylvania.

At a high level, as a project engineer, you will be responsible for working with other team members in the Technology Department to ensure a project's success. The main elements of the technical path include strong technical skills, heavy client/customer contact, daily planning and execution, and creativity.

More specifically, this position will be focused on Union Pacifics enterprise hosting platform. In this role, youll be directly responsible for building automation into the hosting platforms that power the applications driving Union Pacific. This will include managing servers and deploying changes at enterprise scale, driving resiliency and recoverability across data centers, collaborating with DevOps and application teams to ensure platforms meet their needs all while maintaining secure systems.

The ideal candidate for this position will have 3+ years of hands on experience with a distributed Linux-based server environment, automation experience leveraging both app development and tools such as Ansible and Chef as well as excellent troubleshooting skills.

Accountabilities

Solve problems where a precedent has been set in a multi-systems environment to provide a seamless look to the customer.
Provide information and analysis as well as advice and counsel for decision makers.
Demonstrate subject-matter expertise and deliver a quality product on time.
Exhibit a basic working knowledge of at least one Union Pacific business process and be able to explain how their contributions fit within it.
Perform complex tasks with no assistance while setting your own priorities and be capable of transferring this knowledge to team members.

Qualifications

Required

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in this field

Preferred

Intermediate analytical skills
Intermediate problem solving skills
Experience with config management tools like Ansible and Chef
familiarity with current storage management technologies such as SAN and NAS

Work Conditions

18 years of age or older
Authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
Willing and able to support 24x7 operations on mission critical systems
